Meghan Markle: her ultra comforting Christmas dessert is the stuff of dreams… but is it good for your health?
In the latest episode of the Netflix series “With Love, Meghan”, the Duchess of Sussex shared a fruity recipe that quickly created a buzz. But can we reproduce it at Christmas without feeling guilty?

Since last summer, Prince Harry’s wife has hosted the show “With Love, Meghan” where she shares her best “life” tips: cooking recipes, DIY ideas, gardening, etc. However, during the last episode “With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebrations” the Duchess of Sussex has revealed one of her favorite desserts, requiring only 6 ingredients. But is this recipe as healthy as it looks? We asked Vanessa Bedjaï-Haddad, dietician-nutritionist, the question and here is her answer.

A spicy recipe based on seasonal fruits

To make Meghan Markle’s dessert, nothing could be simpler: all you need to do is place pears in a dish, put a little butter in the hollow of each one and add a pinch of cinnamon, ginger and lemon zest. Then, the fruits should be drizzled with honey or maple syrup for even more deliciousness.

Then, bake them at 190°C for 20 minutes. Once removed from the oven, let the pears rest for 10 minutes: they will be even more tender.

Yogurt and nuts as a topping

To serve this festive and seasonal dessert, Prince Harry’s wife accompanies these caramelized pears with candied walnuts and a little yogurt (although it is also possible to add mascarpone or ice cream).

A tasty and easy-to-prepare dessert, which also has a nice effect at the table: the pears have a pretty golden color.

The last advantage of this fruity recipe? It turns out to be very affordable, since it only requires 6 everyday ingredients: pears, butter, citrus zest, spices and honey.

However, on the Internet, some fans of Meghan Markle are wondering: can we eat this dessert without guilt? What about its impact on our figure and our health?

Our expert’s opinion

According to Vanessa Bedjaï-Haddad, it is rather a good idea for dessert.

“We’re looking at something simple, fruit-based, which remains lighter than many Christmas desserts. The pears bring fiber and freshness, while the spices enhance the whole thing without requiring too much sugar”, assures the expert.

Then it all depends on how you prepare these pears.

“If you put a lot of butter, honey and also add ice cream or caramelized nuts, the dessert can quickly become quite heavy, especially after a festive meal. Cooked fruit also provides a little more sugar to the body, which is therefore not neutral,” warns the dietitian.

Fortunately, it is possible to correct the situation… by adjusting the doses of fat and sugar.

“The advantage of making it at home is precisely to be able to adapt it. You can reduce the quantities, play more with the spices, and accompany these pears with a natural yogurt per person (like Meghan Markle) or a few dried fruits so that it is more filling. Prepared in this way, it is a comforting dessert, easy to make and which allows you to indulge without feeling guilty, even during the holidays!”, concludes Vanessa Bedjaï-Haddad.

And if you’re not a big fan of pears, you can always try this other recipe from Meghan, remembering to be light on the sugar!
