To lose weight, it is advisable to balance your diet and add a slight calorie deficit, in order to lose weight slowly but sustainably. If you are looking for products capable of fighting cravings, you can opt for this food, which provides satiety and regulates intestinal transit.
Konjac, a food known for its slimming properties
Originally from Asia, konjac is known for its richness in soluble fiber. It can be consumed in different forms: noodles, vermicelli, gummy blocks or even food supplements.
Rich in glucomannan, a soluble fiber capable of absorbing up to 100 times its weight in water, konjac forms a viscous gel in the stomach, slowing digestion and providing a quick and lasting feeling of satiety. “It is an excellent natural appetite suppressant. It helps reduce the feeling of hunger and therefore reduce calorie intake without frustration.” explains Jean-Michel Cohen in an Instagram post.
An ultra-light but nutritious food
One of the great advantages of konjac is its low caloric value, it has only 8 kcal per 100 g with:
- Less than 1 g of carbohydrates;
- Less than 0.1 g of lipids;
- Up to 5g of soluble fiber.
And why does konjac help with weight loss? What are its strengths? He presents several of them.
- It reduces the appetite. Thanks to its thickening effect, Konjac fills the stomach, giving a feeling of rapid satiety;
- It limits the absorption of fats and sugars. Konjac fiber slows the passage of food through the intestine, reducing the absorption of fats and carbohydrates;
- It promotes good digestion. “The soluble fibers of konjac also have a beneficial effect on intestinal transit.inal, helping to regulate digestion and fight against constipation” specifies Jean-Michel Cohen.
Konjac: in what form should it be consumed?
Konjac comes in several forms:
- In noodles and vermicelli (Shirataki): perfect to replace classic pasta, with zero calories and a texture close to Asian noodles;
- In gelled block (Konnyaku): used in Japanese cuisine;
- In food supplements (capsules, powders): practical, but consume with plenty of water to avoid any risk of choking.
Jean-Michel Cohen recommends opting for konjac in the form of solid foods rather than in capsules. “It is better to favor konjac noodles or vermicelli, which allow you to integrate this food into a balanced diet, rather than taking capsules, which are often less filling.”
What additional precautions should be taken?
The nutritionist adds some additional advice, if you want to start consuming konjac.
- Drink plenty of water with konjac, especially in the form of supplements, to avoid any risk of esophageal blockage;
- Do not abuse it : in excess, it can cause bloating or digestive problems;
- Integrate it into a varied diet : it does not replace a balanced diet and must be accompanied by proteins and vegetables.
“Konjac is a good slimming ally, but it should not be used as a miracle product. It works especially when combined with a balanced diet and good hydration” concludes Jean-Michel Cohen.
