Left or right? The side of the bed you choose reveals (a lot) about you
The choice of side of the bed would not be as trivial as it seems. A recent study conducted in the United States suggests that this preference could reveal certain traits about your personality. Find out what your preferred side says about you.

Every night, without even thinking about it, you slide into the same side of the bed. A simple habit? Not so sure. According to a study, this seemingly innocuous choice could say a lot about your personality. Whether you sleep on the left or the right, your preference would be linked to very specific traits, ranging from your creativity to your musical tastes… or even your political orientation. So, coincidence or unconscious reflection of your character? Deciphering the surprising results of this survey.

If you sleep on the left…

You would be more imaginative and creative. Fans of old school music, dramatic films and beer are often fans of this side of the mattress. Politically, they would also tend to be more progressive.

If you sleep on the right…

You would be more logical and analytical. Fans of rock, action movies and wine would be more inclined to find themselves there, with a more conservative political inclination.

Why do we sleep on one side rather than the other?

Far from being a simple coincidence, this choice would be influenced by several factors:

  • 40% of sleepers choose the most accessible side;
  • 31% let their partner decide;
  • 25% favor the best view of the television.

Other not very reassuring figures

The study does not stop there. It also reveals that the majority of Americans sleep only 6 hours 22 minutes per night on average, well below the 7 to 9 hours recommended by the National Sleep Foundation. Worse still, 22% of respondents sleep barely 4 to 5 hours per night.

The effects of lack of sleep are well documented: decreased concentration, increased stress and significant risk of chronic diseases. So, whatever your side of the bed, the main thing is to spend enough time there.
