When I was asked to try a thalassotherapy break in Pornichet, in the bay of La Baule, I said to myself: easy, I know. Error. It’s something else — something more precise, more grounded, and frankly, more effective than anything I’ve experienced before.

The Relais Thalasso Pornichet occupies the Château des Tourelles, an immaculate building with gray turrets which literally emerges from the seaside. No road to cross, no parking to follow: the customs officers’ path runs along the coast just ahead. The sea is there, immediate, physical. You can feel it before you even put down your suitcase.
The hotel — 105 rooms, all with balcony or terrace — has been designed so that the well-being stay can be enjoyed in a bathrobe (or rather kimono here) from morning to evening. There is direct access to the thalassotherapy center by elevator from the upper floors. It’s a detail, but it changes everything: there is no friction between the room and the treatments, and the state of relaxation sets in from the first evening.
The lobby is bright, the restaurant faces the horizon, the castle bar offers cocktails designed according to the seasons. The whole thing exudes a seaside elegance without ostentation — neither too chic to feel intimidated, nor too banal to lose the desire to break away from everyday life.

The MASAK diagnosis: when thalassotherapy enters the era of proof
Before the first treatment, a step that I had never experienced in any spa: the MASAK diagnosis. MASAK for Mental And Stress Assessment Kit — a tool developed by physiologist Christophe Hausswirth, former scientific director of INSEP, which became a medical device recognized by the Ministry of Health in the summer of 2025.

I had never experienced the STENDO before. The principle: a pneumatic compression system synchronized with the heart rate, acting on veno-lymphatic circulation. Concretely, we lie down dressed in an enveloping suit which pulses gently, in unison with the heart. It’s a weird feeling at first — almost medical — then deeply calming. I come out of there with light legs and a mental clarity I haven’t experienced in weeks.
The I³Dôme is a detoxification capsule that combines long infrared, plasma and light therapy. You enter as if in a bubble, your head in the open air, while your body sweats gently under a pink-red light. The heat is gentle, nothing like a Finnish sauna. We leave slightly euphoric.
The Guérande salt bag massage: the signature treatment that brings everything together
The third highlight of the stay was not planned in the Energy Awakening Break program. I asked to add it on recommendation of the team: the signature massage with Guérande salt bags. And frankly, this is perhaps the treatment that I will talk about the longest.
Heated bags, filled with Guérande salt and cereals, applied by pressure and sliding over the entire back, shoulders and neck. The heat penetrates slowly, deeply. The gestures are precise, rhythmic, almost hypnotic. The salt remineralizes, relaxes contractures, releases something that we were carrying without realizing it.
This treatment was designed exclusively for the Château des Tourelles. It bears the signature of Pornichet – this Guérande salt harvested a few kilometers from here, this maritime tradition which permeates the entire region. We feel that this is not a standardized treatment copied and pasted from a global catalog. It’s grounded, local, sincere.

Free access to the marine spa: the bonus that makes the difference
Included in any stay, free access to the marine spa is one of the real assets of the establishment. The seawater swimming pool heated to over 30°, equipped with underwater jets and a 23-meter swimming lane, is bright, calm, and open seven days a week. I spend an hour there every morning, before treatments, staring into the distance facing the century-old pines of the park.
It is this time, free and unstructured, which completes the effectiveness of care. The body digests, the sea water works, the mind rests. Thalassotherapy is not just a succession of services: it is a global immersion in a marine environment, and the spa is its beating heart.

And the table in all this?
The Château des Tourelles restaurant deserves a special mention. Facing the ocean, the chef offers fresh and inventive cuisine, centered on seafood and local flavors — Kercabellec oysters, Guérande salt, market fish. A vegetarian option is on the menu every day. Breakfasts are served as a buffet on the panoramic terrace, in a light that forgives everything, even difficult awakenings.
MY VERDICT
Two days were enough to convince me. Really.
I arrived at the Relais Thalasso in Pornichet with the usual skepticism of beauty journalists when faced with promises of well-being. I left with something rare: the conviction that this stay had had a real, measurable effect on my energy level and my quality of sleep.
The Energy Awakening Break is an ideal introduction for those who don’t have six days to devote to a complete treatment but want something more than a classic spa weekend. The combination of thalassotherapy + innovative technologies + private suite is extremely effective.
The MASAK diagnosis changes the situation. It transforms what seemed like feelings into tangible data. For a beauty section manager used to dissecting cosmetic claims, this is an approach that inspires confidence.
