These sunflower seeds sold throughout France recalled due to dangerous toxins
A national recall targets SUN and Petit Prix salted roasted sunflower seeds sold in supermarkets throughout France. In question, a risk linked to Alternaria toxins which requires checking certain sachets before consumption.

A new national recall hits bags of salted roasted sunflower seeds sold in supermarkets throughout France. In question, a risk linked to Alternaria toxins, classified as “other chemical contaminants” on the official RappelConso platform, with a procedure open until Monday June 22, 2026. These products correspond to several references of the SUN brand and the Petit Prix private label, marketed by GMS FRANCE.

According to files 2026-04-0270, 2026-04-0271 and 2026-04-0272 published on RappelConso at the initiative of COLOR COLOR FOODS, these sachets fall into the “Food” category and the “Nuts and seeds” subcategory. These are SUN 250 g and 500 g products and a 400 g Low Price package, recalled on a “Voluntary basis (without prefectural order)”, a few months after a first withdrawal of SUN sunflower seeds announced in November 2025 for the same type of risk.

Alternaria toxins: the risk targeted by this recall of sunflower seeds

Alternaria toxins are substances produced by molds that develop on certain plants, including oilseeds such as sunflower, but also on cereals and fruits. They can be found in food when raw materials have been contaminated in the field or during storage.

The National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety indicates that these compounds can have long-term toxic effects, with deleterious effects on the heart, lungs, induction of allergies and proven mutagenic and genotoxic effects. Which justifies preventive reminders even in the absence of reported cases of poisoning

2025 recall on SUN sunflower seeds: a precedent to know

According to a RappelConso sheet from November 2025, a sachet of SUN 500 g salted roasted sunflower seeds had already been withdrawn for the same type of contamination by Alternaria toxins. The current operation is therefore part of prolonged vigilance around this range of salty snacks.
