High heat in the office, 51% of employees report uncomfortable conditions
Episodes of extreme heat could once again mark the summer. However, more than one in two employees believe that their company is not ready to deal with these situations, according to a survey carried out among more than 4,200 workers in France.

The prospect of another summer marked by high temperatures is already worrying some French employees. The study carried out by OberA among 4,203 workers shows that companies are still struggling to convince people of their ability to manage episodes of high heat which are becoming more frequent. The French, however, seem to be aware of the subject. Nearly 78% say they have heard about the risks associated with a potentially very hot summer, including 29% who say they are well informed. Despite this, only 39% consider their employer prepared for these situations.

More than one in two employees consider their company insufficiently prepared

The survey reveals a significant gap between the risks identified and the feelings of employees. In total, 53% believe that their company is not ready to effectively manage episodes of high heat.

In detail, 31% consider it “rather not” prepared and 22% “not at all”. Conversely, only 11% think their business is fully ready while 28% consider it somewhat prepared.

This perception comes as heat waves are gradually becoming a lasting issue for organizations, particularly in sectors where employees remain exposed for several hours.

Premises considered uncomfortable and difficulties rarely reported

The perceived lack of preparation is directly reflected in the workspaces. More than one in two employees, or 51%, believe that the temperature in their company is not comfortable.

Among them, 34% speak of an uncomfortable environment and 17% describe it as very uncomfortable. The difficulties concern offices as well as businesses, workshops, warehouses and industrial sites.

Despite this thermal discomfort, the subject remains little raised among employers. The study indicates that 67% of employees have never reported a temperature-related problem in their workplace. Among them, 24% explain having thought about it without taking action, while 43% have never addressed the issue.

Concerning the devices already present, fresh water remains the most widespread solution with 71% of mentions. Fans come next at 39%, ahead of solar protection at 38% and air conditioning at 36%. Coolers remain much rarer with only 9%.

Agriculture, construction, public sector… The professions most affected by the heat

Certain sectors appear particularly exposed. Agriculture comes out on top since 57% of respondents consider heat to be very problematic in this area, marked by prolonged outdoor exposure.

Construction and industry follow with 43%, particularly due to outdoor construction sites, physical work and already hot environments such as production workshops.

The public sector comes next at 41%. Professions in health, administration and public services are also among those facing difficulties linked to high temperatures.

Concrete measures expected

The employees interviewed are now waiting for concrete measures. Adjusting schedules to avoid the hottest hours is cited by 56% of respondents. Refreshed spaces received 47% of the vote, while 42% wanted more simple equipment.

The installation of coolers is also favored by 41% of employees. However, a majority is still unaware of the legal framework: 54% of French people do not know that the employer has an obligation to act during heatwaves, even though these provisions have been strengthened since July 2025.
