This summer, ultra-colorful manicures are slowly leaving the spotlight: the star is the transparent manicure. Diluted pink nail polishes, milky whites, mirror shine… the “sheer nails” trend fits perfectly with the clean girl aesthetic. And a British fashion icon has just confirmed it with an icy pink manicure seen on a romantic cruise.
Why Victoria Beckham’s “rose water nails” are so talked about
This is Victoria Beckham, photographed on a boat alongside David Beckham during the solar eclipse, with impeccable rose water nails. On her nails, the shade is a very diluted, glossy pink, slightly revealing the natural nail.
The finish is almost watery: a light pink, barely tinted, very shiny, which gives the impression that the nails have just come out of water. Unlike an opaque nude, the color remains modular: one coat for a “bare nails” effect, two coats for a more present but still luminous pink.
The cousin of rose water nails, the “milky rose nails” varnish also worn by Victoria Beckham, is a pale milky pink, chic and discreet which beautifies all hands and skin tones. Same principle here: on mid-length almond nails, light pink elongates the fingers and goes equally well with silver or gold jewelry, a nude dress or a black suit.
This type of semi-transparent varnish is also attractive because it lasts longer than a bright color, because regrowth and chips are much less visible.
Reproduce “rose water nails”, in the salon or at home
In the salon, the simplest thing is to request a BIAB installation, for “Builder In A Bottle“, with a very transparent pink tint.
At home, prepare clean nails, filed into an almond or rounded almond shape, with a length of 0.5 to 1 centimeter beyond the free edge.
Then apply a base, then one or two thin coats of a translucent milky pink varnish, always leaving a little free edge visible.
Finish with a high shine top coat for the almost wet “wet look” effect.
Rose water nails or “milky rose nails”: which manicure to choose?
Pink water nails are similar to tinted water: lots of transparency, a barely there pink veil, ideal if you like very natural minimalist manicures.
The “milky pink” is creamier, a little more opaque, perfect for giving a fresh touch to fall looks and coordinating with a burgundy sweater, a chocolate brown coat or olive green pants.
