Last May, the magazines showed their happiness: Louane and Florian Rossi, all smiles, got married in Pertuis after nine years of relationship and a little Esmée, born in 2020. The photos of the ceremony, relayed by several media, seemed to punctuate a long and established love story.
But Friday September 25, only four months after this wedding, Here is announced a completely different reality: the couple would now live separately.
Causes still unknown to the public
This month of September, it is therefore a Louane, now separated from her husband, who is trying to catch her breath. According to
Here isthe rupture would be recorded.
“She kept the apartment and he currently lives elsewhere.”confides a relative to the magazine. “Since the breakup, she often goes to sleep with friends, to get advice and not be alone.”
The cause of this rapid separation, however, remains unknown to the public. Here is draws a parallel in particular with the lyrics of a future song by Louane, in which the singer evokes a toxic relationship. But it is impossible to draw conclusions about the reality of his relationship.
For his part, Florian Rossi also published several quotes about the separation on his social networks. Here again, these publications do not, on their own, allow us to know the reasons for their breakup.
And if the situation raises questions, it is also because it seems paradoxical: how can a couple who share a nine-year history separate just a few months after getting married?
For Amélie Boukhobza, psychologist, we must be careful not to interpret the case of Louane and Florian Rossi. “It’s unclear what happened between them and they haven’t publicly confirmed their separation, as far as I know.” But the phenomenon is not as contradictory as it seems.
Why do some couples separate after marriage?
But is a breakup that occurs shortly after the ceremony so exceptional? Not really according to our expert.
“More generally, yes, we see couples separating quite quickly after their marriage even though they had been together for a very long time,” explains the psychologist.
A breakup that occurs after a marriage therefore does not necessarily mean that the difficulties appeared after the ceremony. On the contrary, some may have been present for a long time without having been truly confronted.
“Marriage can precipitate certain things or simply make issues that already existed much more visible,” underlines Amélie Boukhobza.
The months preceding the ceremony can in fact give the couple a particularly motivating common objective: choose a date, organize the party, prepare the ceremony, bring together loved ones, imagine what happens next…
“The engagement, the preparations, the ceremony, the whole project around the wedding can mobilize the couple enormously for months and shift other issues, or even camouflage them.”
During this time, the couple moves toward a shared goal. “We have a common goal, we organize, we plan, we wait for something. Then, suddenly, it’s done. And we find ourselves once again facing the relationship itself and its reality.”
In other words, marriage does not necessarily create the crisis. He can simply delete the project that, until then, took up a large part of the couple’s space.
Saying “yes forever” can bring up new questions
Marriage also represents a particularly strong symbolic commitment. And this can lead everyone to question themselves more deeply about the life they really want to lead.
“Saying ‘yes forever’ can reactivate questions that were until then quite abstract”explains the psychologist.
“Is this really the life I want? Am I still planning myself with this person? Am I still choosing this relationship or am I continuing a story that has already been going on for a long time?”
These questions can be particularly present when doubts already existed before the marriage.
“It happens, it’s true, that the closer we get to a commitment, the more certain ambivalences become difficult to ignore,” continues Amélie Boukhobza.
The paradox is then this: an event supposed to formalize and strengthen the couple can also force everyone to look more directly at what they feel.
When the wait for marriage fuels desire
The wedding is also an event that is planned well in advance. This projection period can have a particular function in the dynamics of the couple.
“Psychically, it’s interesting: we can desire something very strongly as long as it remains in front of us,” analyzes the psychologist. “The wait, the preparations, the projection enormously support the desire.”
But once the ceremony passes, this dynamic changes.
“Once the event takes place, all that tension subsides. And it’s not necessarily the love that subsides with it. But we find ourselves facing the reality of what we had invested so much in.”
The return to everyday life can then reveal a gap between the image of the couple projected around marriage and the reality of the relationship.
Can marriage serve to “repair” a couple?
Another possible scenario: marriage can be considered, consciously or not, as a new step likely to revive a relationship that is running out of steam.
“Yes, it can happen. A bit like we can sometimes invest the arrival of a child with the idea that it will bring closer together a couple who are moving away”, eexplains Amélie Boukhobza.
Marriage can then be seen as “a new beginning, something that will recreate the bond or bring movement back into the relationship.”
But this new step is not necessarily enough to resolve the existing difficulties.
“A marriage obviously does not resolve what existed before it”recalls the psychologist. “Once the ceremony is over, the same difficulties will reappear.”
And these may even seem more present than before, once the big project is completed. “They can become more difficult to avoid since there is no longer the big project in front of you to keep them at bay.”
However, it is impossible to know if this mechanism concerns Louane and Florian Rossi. Their story and the reasons for their possible separation belong to them. What their situation shows above all, if their separation were to be confirmed, is that a ceremony can formalize a relationship without necessarily resolving the fragilities that already existed within the couple.
