It is not a question of knowing if you are dangerous, but to understand what your brain tells about your emotions and your relationship to others. A team of Chinese neurologists has just unveiled everyday signs that could reflect brain wiring specific to psychopathic profiles. Based on MRI analysis of 82 European adults, this pioneering research directly links psychopathic personality traits to specific structural connections in the brain. The results reveal how certain habits, often minimized, can point out an atypical neurological configuration.
The brain of psychopaths shows very specific connections
The study, conducted from the Leipzig Mind-Body database, used the Short Dark Triad Testa questionnaire that assesses narcissism, manipulative tendencies and the lack of empathy. The participants then had to describe their impulsive or anti -social behaviors.
By comparing these results to brain MRIs, the researchers identified striking differences in the connections of the white matter. “”Psychopathic features were mainly associated with increased structural connectivity within front and parietal regions“Explained the authors.
Concretely, these regions govern decision -making, emotion, impulse control and attention. The stronger the connections, the more individuals have an ability to understand emotions … without feeling them. It is this dissonance that can cause cold, even violent behaviors.
Four daily behaviors that must alert
This type of brain wiring is associated with several revealing daily behaviors:
- Excessive irritability or verbal aggressiveness without clear reason.
- Impulsive decision -making, without considering the consequences for others.
- Frequent transgression of social or family rules.
- An ability to manipulate verbally or emotionally, without guilt.
The link has been established between reinforced connections in areas related to immediate gratuity and selfish decision -making. The researchers also note a weakness in the brains responsible for concentration and self -control, accentuating the obsession for its own objectives.
Language is not spared: MRIs reveal an abnormal activity in the areas involved in understanding words, which could explain the often strategic communication, devoid of authentic emotion.
What specialists observe in these profiles
British psychiatrist Dr Jaleel Mohammed, questioned about these results, sums up this flagrant emotional detachment: “Psychopaths do not care about the feelings of others. In fact, if you ever approach a psychopath to tell him what you feel about a situation, a psychopath will clearly indicate that he does not care“.
“”They literally have a million things they prefer to do rather than listen to what you think of a situation“He adds.
These profiles, if they do not all become violent, nevertheless have disturbing behavioral patterns. They are located on a spectrum, where gravity varies according to the combination of features, their intensity and their expression in everyday life.
