A Dutch museum exhibits a 200 -year -old condom
A rare condom dating from around 1830, adorned with an erotic engraving representing a nun and three ecclesiastics in provocative poses, has been exhibited since Tuesday at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

This almost bicentennial contraceptive is probably made from a sheep appendage. It could be a brothel memory of which only two copies have been preserved, the museum said in a statement.

“”It testifies to the multiple applications of the art of engraving and offers an overview of sexuality and prostitution in the 19th century“Said the museum.

The condom is part of an exhibition on prostitution and sexuality in the 19th century.

The engraving on the condom represents a seated nun, legs apart, lifting its skirt and pointing to one of the three ecclesiastics, whose genitals are also exposed.

“”It represents both the playful and serious side of sexual health“, According to the museum.

“”The search for pleasure was juxtaposed to the fear of STDs, in particular syphilis, and unwanted pregnancies“Added the Rijksmuseum.

The condom was bought at auction six months ago. An engraving on a condom did not yet appear in the Rijksmuseum collection, the establishment said.
