Interviews, sport, television, opening of its own restaurant and creation of its clothing brand … For years, Laury Thilleman has been on all fronts – to the point of doing too much and sinking. In a recent video given to the media “Lou“, The host returns to this difficult episode of her life, where she discovered”its shadow share“. Focus on this exhaustion state which has a well-known name today: burn-out.
Laury Thilleman suffered from a “Emotional, mental and physical chaos“”
“”At 30, my body flanked, my head flanked, my heart told me Stop“Says the former Miss France at the microphone of the Lou.”It’s like a black ball that was deep inside and sprang without even having seen it happen“She says.
This collapse occurs precisely in 2022, the year when she separated from her spouse, Chef Juan Arbelaez. The host then tried to have a baby, while leading all his projects (television sets, YouTube channel, Podcast, clothing brand, management of the VIDA restaurant …). But the Breton, at the end of the strength (she could no longer in particular separate her career from her private life) decides to send everything.
After spending ten years at “Respond to the expectations of others”, “I listened to the little inner voice that did not want to feel imprisoned, bridled by an existence that I would not have chosen”explained the host to our colleagues from Paris Match. “”It is as if I had energized the walls around me “, she said.
To recharge its batteries and initiate its reconstruction, Laury Thilleman then decides to fly to Bali, an island which she particularly likes for surfing. But her stay turns short: a victim of a knee injury, she is forced to return to Brittany, where four months of convalescence await her.
A forced break that will be beneficial. “”I had a work stoppage and I had to say no to 18,000 things“, she confirms.
A parenthesis ultimately salutary for the former beauty queen, who now invites everyone to “take yourself“and”His mental health“. “With hindsight, it was the best gift.”
Burn-out: what is it?
Burn-out designates a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion which results from chronic stress in the context of work. The individual concerned tries, without success, to achieve unrealizable objectives and/or to accomplish insurmountable tasks.
According to WHO, the disease manifests itself in three key signs: “A feeling of lack of energy or exhaustion, a withdrawal from work or negative or cynical feelings linked to work, reduced professional efficiency.”
But other symptoms may also appear: taking or weight loss, anxiety attacks, intense episodes of stress, drop in self -esteem, feeling of incompetence, spontaneous anger, frequent crying … and sometimes, a form of irritability. Psychosomatic disorders can also settle (headache, back, dizziness, sleep disturbances, etc.) and work stoppages multiply.
On the behavior side, the person concerned can isolate themselves, both professionally and personal.
Important detail: burnout can also be “digital”, as Laury Thilleman points out, who denounces the pressure imposed by social networks.
How to get out of it?
You must first be prescribed a work stoppage. This must last as long as necessary: rest is an integral part of the healing process.
Then, getting help by a doctor is essential. Thus, therapy ensured by a psychologist/psychiatrist is essential; Sometimes associated with taking drug treatment (anxiolytics and antidepressants).
Two years after her burnout, Laury Thilleman knows how to escape when she feels the need. She then turns to a natural therapy which makes her the greatest good: surfing.
