Is school insurance compulsory?
In public establishments (school, middle school or high school), no school insurance is required for activities taking place within the establishment and during normal class hours. Thus, for all compulsory activities, that is to say those included in the student’s timetable, insurance is not compulsory.
On the other hand, she is mandatory for all optional activities taking place outside the establishment (cultural outings, language stays, discovery classes, etc.).
Private establishments set their own rules regarding insurance.
What risks does school insurance cover?
School insurance must cover:
- The harm your child can cause to others (“civil liability” guarantee towards third parties);
- The damage that the child may cause to himself or that he could suffer (individual bodily injury guarantee).
If you have already subscribed “multi-risk home” insurance for your family, check that it covers these two categories of risks. Very often, individual accident guarantee is absent from traditional contracts and requires the subscription of additional guarantee.
The school insurance contract may also offer
additional guaranteessuch as for example various thefts, racketeering or even total or partial coverage of childcare costs, if your child is convalescing following hospitalization.
School and extracurricular insurance, what to choose?
- School insurance alone covers your child during school time and home-school journeys;
- School and extra-curricular insurance operates 24 hours a day during the subscription year. Your child will therefore be covered if he practices a sport or any activity outside of school, just as he will be insured during the holidays.
To determine the most appropriate insurance policy for your child, do not hesitate to seek advice from your insurer or a Parents’ Federation.
