Do you often hesitate before making a decision, whether in your personal or professional life? Do you recognize yourself in an indecisive character? Rest assured, it is entirely possible to change and overcome this difficulty. As psychologist Siyana Mincheva explains, “indecision reflects a form of anxiety, which is actually fear. To move forward, we must therefore ask ourselves an essential question: who do I want to be?“
Know yourself better to remove blockages
Before we can make decisions with confidence, it is essential to identify what is holding us back. Often we are influenced by limiting beliefs or conditioning that prevents us from acting freely. To see things more clearly, the psychologist recommends asking yourself a few fundamental questions:
- What is stopping me from being fully myself? ;
- Do I seek above all to please others? ;
- Am I afraid of not being recognized if I assert my true identity?
“Anyone who respects themselves does work on themselves“, recalls Siyana Mincheva. “And psychotherapy can be a valuable help in learning to free yourself from these invisible barriers.“
Detach yourself from the past and learn to let go
Indecision and anxiety are often linked to excessive attachment to the past. “Our experiences, our hurts and our failures fuel our doubts, but they should not dictate our future choices“, explains the psychologist. She recommends adopting a more flexible perspective, accepting that mistakes are part of the learning process.”The same reality can be perceived from different angles. Experiencing our mental flexibility allows us to act with more confidence“, she emphasizes.
Rely on positive visualization
Making a decision involves planning for the future. Positive visualization is an effective technique for overcoming mental blocks and building self-confidence. To do this, Siyana Mincheva suggests a simple exercise:
- Imagine a situation in which you are hesitant to act.
- Visualize yourself making the ideal decision, feel the satisfaction and serenity that results from it.
- Notice the positive emotions and thoughts that emerge.
“This technique builds confidence and reduces the impact of irrational thoughts that fuel indecision“, she explains.
Dare to act without fear
Acceptance is an essential key to overcoming indecision. Accept uncertainty, accept your mistakes, accept being yourself… It is by daring to take action that you regain control of your life. “Our thoughts reflect reality. We create our future based on our beliefs“, concludes Siyana Mincheva.
By adopting a more confident posture and daring to overcome doubt, we offer ourselves new opportunities and a more serene future.
