On holiday tables, foie gras is often a must-have. For certain customers of Carrefour and U stores, verification is necessary, however, because a
recall of whole duck foie gras from the South West LE TRAITEUR has just been launched nationally due to a packaging problem.
The product concerned is a Whole duck foie gras from the South West 10 slicespackaged in plastic trays under a protective atmosphere of 300 g, marketed under the brand LE TRAITEUR by Euralis Gastronomie. This voluntary recall, declared on December 11, 2025, follows the identification of microleaks on certain batches sold throughout France. The question is simple: is your tray one of the targeted references?
Foie gras recall LE TRAITEUR: batches and stores concerned
Only two specific series of this foie gras are recalled. They both have the barcode GTIN 3104544072183 and are distinguished by their batch number and expiration date. This includes lot 405 300 000 407218 with expiry date of January 10, 2026, and lot 405 311 000 407218 with expiry date of January 21, 2026. The product comes in 10 slices ready to serve, with the FR 65 304 002 CE health mark indicated on the packaging.
These trays were put on shelves between November 3, 2025 and December 11, 2025. They were distributed throughout France by the Carrefour and Coopérative U brands, in the refrigerated fresh section. The recall procedure mentions a voluntary nature, without a prefectural order, and does not concern other references of LE TRAITEUR foie gras nor products of other brands, formats or weights.
Microleak from the packaging: what risk for this foie gras from the South West?
The official reason refers to a lack of sealing of the trays, linked to microleaks or defective heat sealing. This type of defect can compromise the protective atmosphere supposed to preserve the fatty liver. The manufacturer highlights a microbiological risk and also speaks of “organoleptic modifications”, that is to say possible changes in taste, odor or texture, which reflect a possible alteration of the product.
The recall sheet specifies that these foie gras were manufactured or preserved in conditions that did not provide health guarantees deemed satisfactory. They are therefore considered likely to present a danger to the health of consumers. The product must remain in the refrigerator, but this conservation precaution is not enough to remove doubt once the integrity of the packaging is called into question.
What to do if you bought this recalled foie gras?
The instructions are clear for holders of a tray corresponding to the GTIN, batch and DLC mentioned. Customers are asked to:
- Do not consume this foie gras anymore, even if it appears normal to the eye and smell;
- Destroy the product, or return it to the store if the brand offers it;
- Contact consumer service on 09 69 32 00 05 to find out the support arrangements;
- Request a refund, provided as part of this recall procedure.
The official end of the procedure is set for Monday, December 29, 2025. Consumers are invited to check the labels (GTIN, batch number, DLC) on their holiday foie gras, and to report any recalled product that remains on the shelves via online reporting systems. Regularly following official recall notices allows you to carefully adjust your purchases of festive products, without sacrificing the conviviality of New Year’s Eve.
