While collective immunity is receding and a new variant emerges, the health authorities extend the vaccination renewal campaign to protect the most vulnerable people.
An essential mobilization for a safer summer
In accordance with the opinion rendered by the High Authority for Health (HAS) on February 27, 2025, the spring vaccination campaign against the COVVI-19, initially launched on April 14, is extended until June 30, 2025. This decision aims to provide reinforced protection to the most risky persons before the summer period, while the variant NB.1.8.1 makes its appearance on the territory.
Still insufficient vaccination coverage
For several months, the circulation of SARS-COV-2 has remained low, and the last epidemic peak dates back to September 2024. However, this lull is not without consequences: low vaccination coverage during the winter of 2024-2025 (only 18.3 % of target audiences vaccinated in the fall) lets fear a significant drop in immunity in the population. The extension of the campaign therefore aims to fill this vaccination delay and prevent an epidemic recovery.
Who is affected by this vaccination reminder?
The most fragile people, whose protection decreases rapidly over time, have priority for this dose of recall. This concerns:
- People aged 80 and over;
- Immunocompromised people, whatever their age;
- Residents of nursing homes and long -term care units;
- Anyone at very high risk, by medical decision.
These people can receive an injection from 3 months after their last dose or infection. They will also be eligible for a new dose during the fall campaign.
A call for the mobilization of health professionals
The Ministry of Health invites professionals to mobilize without waiting to protect subjects at risk of serious form. Pfizer-BionTech Cumirnaty® vaccines can be ordered by pharmacies via the France dedicated public health tool, at the request of authorized effectors.
Finally, vaccination remains open to any voluntary person, even outside the priority criteria. An opportunity to strengthen personal protection before major summer migrations.
