In this period of hot weather, it is a solution that arises again as a potential vacation trend: preference for cooler destinations. After several years marked by scorching episodes, some travelers would bet on anticipation by choosing a vacation in more breathable climates. A reality measured by the online traveler EDRÉAMS ODIGEO* (+45%in one year) or Nantes (+27%), but also destinations on the Spanish Basque coast like Santander (+32%).
If this is a trend compared to last summer, not only is the phenomenon not new, but it does not only concern French vacationers. Since 2022, the travel operator has indeed recorded an increase in research to Rouen at the start of the United Kingdom of around 255%while forecasts for stays in Nantes from Portugal (+80%), but also Germany (+65%) or Spain (+63%) and Italy (+61%) have been noted.
This climate context difficult to predict, with regard to scorching episodes, logically commits travelers to organize. But it is clear that not all generations seem to want to change their habits in the same way. The youngest give the impression of being more prepared for the idea of having to change the plan when necessary. In the event of so-called extreme weather, almost three-quarters of 18-24 year olds (72%) and even 79% of Millennials would agree to change their stay, while they are only 8% among 65 and over. The former even want to get their hands in the pocket if the situation is argued (50%), unlike the latter (25%).
Not sure that these modifications really take place, with regard to young travelers. Because in fact, they have already joined the idea of traveling according to weather conditions. This is the case of 33% of Millennials who envisage the principle of no longer traveling during the so -called traditional periods, while 65 and over are only 11%.
*Statistics are based on a survey carried out by OnePoll from April 28 to May 8, 2025 among 9,000 consumers from around the world, including 1,000 French adults having left on vacation abroad in the past 5 years.
