A newcomer is making noise in bathrooms and living rooms: the ghd Speed hair dryer. Presented as the fastest model ever designed by the British brand, it shakes up the codes of an accessory long seen as purely practical.
Launched at the beginning of February 2026 in France, this high-end hair dryer costs around €399. Designed for hairdressers but suitable for everyday use, it promises express drying, enhanced shine and preserved fiber. It remains to be understood what lies behind this promise.
Ghd Speed, the ultra-fast hair dryer designed for professional rhythm
At the heart of the device, a 118,000 rpm digital brushless motor propels a flow of air at 176 km/h. According to the brand, it was developed after more than 166,000 hours of testing in the ghd electro-beauty innovation center in Cambridge (United Kingdom), with a motor 91% more compact than the previous generation to improve maneuverability.
The ghd Speed clearly aims for the salon result at home. It would be around 100g lighter than the ghd Helios hairdryer, with a 2.90m cable to keep it moving freely. Weight distribution, ergonomic handle, flow precision: everything has been designed to support chain blow-drying as well as a rushed morning routine.
ghd halo™ technology to combine speed and protection
The real novelty comes from ghd halo™ technology: a double flow of hot and cold air which creates a sort of cooler halo around the main flow. The goal is to smooth heat diffusion, avoid thermal peaks and keep the scalp more comfortable from the roots, even at full power.
In terms of settings, the ghd Speed offers 4 temperatures, 4 speeds, a cold air button and a memory that retains preferences from one session to the next. The body and tips stay cool to the touch. According to internal tests, it provides up to 56% more shine, 2.2 times more volume at the roots and 54% less frizz than air drying, while remaining without detected thermal damage.
Who is the ghd Speed really worth the investment for?
With its price positioned in the luxury segment, the ghd Speed is intended for those who use their hair dryer intensively or want an almost professional result at home. Compared to the ghd Helios, it promises faster drying, better heat control and more comfort, without a drastic change in noise level.
In practice, the ghd Speed mainly targets:
- People with long or thick hair, for whom every minute of drying counts;
- Regular blow-dry fans who want to limit breakage and frizz;
- Hairdressers and beauty professionals looking for a compact, powerful and stable tool for intensive use.
