In an unprecedented report put online in early May, TF1 highlights an amazing and yet very real trend: the lengthening of the legs. An aesthetic practice that has become more democratic in recent years, to the point of conquering the whole world. But what are the risks of these operations sometimes carried out in the chain, especially in Turkey?
More than 9 centimeters in 3 months
To destroy the stalkers, or heal injuries of their childhood, some patients complexed by their size are ready for everything – including going under the scalpel of Doctor Yunus Öç, one of the largest Turkish specialists in elongation surgery.
“This week, I have two patients coming from Japan, the week after a Canadian, and then an American”explains the doctor at the microphone of TF1.
On average, Dr. Yunus Öç produces sixty operations per year. His goal? Allow patients to grow “Up to 9 cm” in three months. “The maximum I have made is 18 centimeters, but I really don’t recommend it”, he said.
A very long rehabilitation
And to achieve this, nothing is left to chance: a metal rod is inserted in the tibia or the femur of the patient, then gradually elongated one millimeter per day. After three months, she will have reached nine centimeters. After a year, the bone will be rebuilt around the stem.
“Six months after the operation, the patient will be able to walk without crutches again, and after a year, can even run”underlines the surgeon.
But does the promise of these additional centimeters really justify such an intervention? Not really, confided to us the orthopedic and traumatologist Eric Plotkin surgeon, in a previous article.
“A real scandal” according to Dr. Eric Plotkine, orthopedic surgeon
Sawing his bones in Türkiye, but also in India or South America for “aesthetic” purposes, remains difficult to accept for most of the doctors. In France, this operation is only reimbursed for medical reasons.
“Being lengthening your legs for aesthetic reasons is properly scandalous. It is a very dangerous surgery for the patient. Because of this risk and the length of the procedure, an extension should only be discussed in the event of large congenital inequalities in length of the legs, or in cases of nanism”, underlines Dr. Eric Plotkine.
Catherine Bergeret-Galley, president of the French Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, also mentioned the dangers of such an intervention in an article in the Parisian: “The risk, with these operations, is that members, vessels, nerves, muscles and ligaments do not follow. It is still not trivial, it is an extremely heavy operation “.
A painful and dangerous operation
Because this operation is particularly painful … We notably echoed this Colombian influencer who wanted to use this operation to win 6 cm and who had described his post-operative ordeal with pain preventing him from sleeping for months.
Faced with such a dangerous intervention, candidates must really think twice before considering such an operation.
