What are the health risks?

The manufacturer reports excessive refermentation inside some bottles. This resumption of fermentation increases the pressure: when opened, the liquid can spurt violently, or even cause the glass to burst. The risks mentioned range from cuts by broken glass to damage to eyesight if projected into the eyes. A break in the cold chain can accentuate this phenomenon.

Another danger identified: the presence of fig leaf can cause a reaction called phytophotodermatitis. If kombucha comes into contact with the skin and then the area is exposed to the sun, burns, redness and blisters may appear. In case of skin contact, it is recommended to rinse thoroughly and avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours.

What should the consumer do?

Holders of an affected bottle should no longer consume it or open it suddenly. The product can be returned to the point of sale for refund or a
