Summer. The sun, heat, holidays … and morale in socks … and yes! When we talk about the summer period, we often think of barbecue evenings, general good humor and yet it would no longer be the case.
The exhaustion returns a few days after returning from the holidays
In a new study, British journalists from the Guardian who noted a general exhaustion since June have questioned several people and it actually seems that a trend is looming. Many English have indeed reported to feel exhausted, emptied, tired instead of benefiting from a boost of morale and energy when the sunny days. A phenomenon baptized “Burn-Out étival” or “Miden-year crisis”. “I had not really realized before answering the questions of journalists that I accumulated all my problems, but that’s it”comments one of the young women questioned at Guardian. From these questions, the English media therefore defines the symptoms of summer burnout with: an impression of sleeping standing, being muddy all day, lacking appetite, libido too and any other desire, of making the difference between private and professional life. In short the winter seasonal depression but in summer.
No summer burn-out but a tendency to overwork that is generalized?
Many replied that even after spending their holidays sleeping, the positive effects of this annual break did not last as long as expected and they feel more sensitive and irritable than usual. Admittedly, after studying their quality of life, the most affected were those victims of money or job problems, but many of those who have not declared having special problems admitted to being so affected.
Why a crisis in the middle of the year? Just like why some are more affected by the winter seasonal depression than others the investigation does not respond. According to Dr. Natasha Bijlani, a psychiatrist interviewed by the media across the Channel, it is not a question of overwork linked to the period or the season, but a psychological state with a overworked tendency which spreads with dangerousness in the population because of a society where we try to do more on the private and professional level. “There is more and more burn out in our society in general. It is reaching an epidemic level.”
