A great supermarket classic, this dessert would nevertheless be poorly rated on Yuka. Rich in sugar and saturated fats, it even contains controversial additives.
A dessert which displays the astonishing rating… of 0/100 on Yuka
Head to the ice cream section to find this bad student who is none other than the… famous “Magnum Almonds”. With its 0/100 shocking to say the least, it’s difficult to find even a tiny quality in it according to the Yuka application.
This ice cream is in fact full of ingredients harmful to health: saturated fats (12 grams per meter), sugar (glucose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup) and numerous additives (guar gum, carob seed flour, etc.), two of which are considered particularly worrying: carrageenans (E407) and mono-diglycerides of fatty acids (E471).
E407, in particular, widely used as a thickener and gelling agent by the food industry, is classified as a possible carcinogen (group 2B) according to the UFC-Que-Choisir.
“The results of a cohort study also showed that a higher consumption of carrageenans is positively associated with the risk of breast cancer.“, further specifies the consumer association.
As for E471, it would increase the permeability of the intestinal barrier, promote the appearance of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and lead to an increased risk of diabetes.
So many real good reasons to give up that ice cream cone.
Want ice cream anyway? Here is a “homemade” recipe ready in just one minute
If you love ice cream and other sorbets but also want to take care of your health, the recipe from Alexandra Murcier, dietician-nutritionist, is recommended.
“For ice creams and sorbets, you can use frozen fruits, put them in a blender with crushed ice and a little honey depending on the fruit. For raspberries you need to sweeten a little, for example, to reduce the acidity. We then put everything back in the freezer and it makes a very healthy sorbet / granita. With the mango from Picard it works really well!”,
reveals the expert.
The seasonality of fruits must of course be respected. So right now, opt for apples, pears, plums, quinces, grapes and kiwis. A good way to stock up on vitamins while not skimping on indulgence!
