Every November, it’s the same collective impulse: to say stop smoking. No Tobacco Month returns for its 10th edition, from November 1 to November 30, 2025, with a simple but powerful challenge: stop smoking for 30 consecutive days. A key duration, because passing this milestone multiplies by five the chances of successful weaning in the long term.
Since its launch in 2016, this initiative by Public Health France, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Health Insurance, has enabled more than 1.4 million people to register and millions more to try the experience.
Why does 30 days make all the difference?
Thirty days is much more than a symbol. According to experts, this is the time needed for the body to begin to get rid of nicotine and for the brain to adopt new reflexes.
The benefits appear very quickly:
- Two days after stopping, the blood is free of carbon monoxide;
- Within a week, taste and smell return;
- After two weeks, sleep and breathing stabilize;
- And beyond that, the health benefits accumulate, particularly on the cardiovascular level.
Free, tailor-made support
Tobacco Free Month leaves no one alone in the face of the challenge. Registration, completely free on the tabac-info-service.fr website, gives access to a range of tools:
- A quitting aid kit, with a 40-day program and practical advice;

- Community support on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, where participants encourage each other.
A national mobilization against tobacco
With 75,000 deaths per year, tobacco remains the leading cause of avoidable mortality in France. In ten years, public policies, including Tobacco Free Month, have enabled a historic drop in the number of daily smokers: from 28.6% in 2014 to 18.2% in 2024. This represents 4 million fewer smokers.
The results of the French Public Health Barometer confirm this: young people are particularly sensitive to these campaigns. Among 18-29 year olds, the share of daily smokers fell from 29% in 2014 to 18% in 2021.
Figures which show that beyond encouraging people to quit smoking, No Tobacco Month above all helps save lives.
