Condoms

Condoms are a type of barrier contraception that successfully prevents pregnancy and STI’s with proper usage. It is mostly made of thin latex rubber that is worn on a man’s penis during sex. Female condoms are also available but most people prefer to use male one because it is easy to wear and there are many variants and brands to choose from.

They work by creating a barrier between the skin and fluids of the penis and vagina. Condoms prevent pregnancy by hindering any sperm from getting to the egg. Condoms also block the bodily fluids from mixing, which is the mode of transmission for STI’s.

When choosing which condoms to use, the options are endless. It is up to you and your partner to select which ones you prefer. The standard kind is stretchy which makes it versatile for all men. It is also lightly lubricated for the sex to be comfortable and enjoyable. There are also different options for the thickness of your condoms. The regular thickness has been proven to provide enough protection, but some people may be particularly concerned and want to get the ‘extra safe’ ones. These are slightly thicker, so it is less likely to break. It would be wise to buy one of these styles if you are cautious because wearing two condoms at the same time for extra safety is not advisable. This generates more friction and increases the risk of breakage.

Some people, however,  opt for the opposite one and pick ‘ultra-thin’ condoms because they have more sensitivity and sensation. There are also various designs for condoms to make sex more pleasurable. Some have ribs or dots on the exterior for increased stimulation for women, while others have tingling, cooling and warming gels to speed the woman and slow down the man.

 To spice up sex, some condoms also have a touch of playfulness. Some have brightly coloured ones, glow in the dark and also flavoured ones to a more pleasurable oral sex.  All of these to offer fun and protection at the same time.

Sex education at schools has surely included using condoms as part of the program. However, it can still be challenging or awkward to use, especially for the inexperienced. But wearing condoms shouldn’t be difficult, they are quite easy to put on.

Before putting it on, check the foil and make sure there is no damage and that the condom is not expired. Because of its rubber latex ingredient, they have an expiry date. Open the foil and take the condom out. Make sure you’re holding the right way up. The rim should be on the outside, resembling a hat.

Nip the end of the condom and place it on the head of the penis. Slowly unroll it down the shaft up to the base. That’s how simple it is. After sex, unroll the condom to remove it from the penis and dispose of in the proper bin. Do not flush it down the toilet.
