Every 5 days, a child dies: the government relaunches 119
The French government intensifies its efforts to combat violence against children by relying on a national awareness campaign around the emergency number 119. This initiative aims to encourage the population to point out any suspicion of mistreatment.

Wednesday, September 17, the government presented a national campaign against violence against children. His slogan, broadcast everywhere, resonates as a call: “If you think that a child is in danger, contact 119“.

Broadcast from September 15 to October 26, the campaign intends to recall that everyone can and must act in the face of violence against children.

119: a vital number to protect children

This campaign, carried by the Ministry of Labor, Health, Solidarity and Families, will be visible on television, radio, cinema, Internet, in stations and shopping centers.

The device is based on a film, two audio spots, urban displays and digital content. Everyone puts on everyday situations where an adult notices a sign that challenges him without knowing how to react. The message is clear: it is not necessary to have evidence to act, the 119 is there to accompany and protect.

The objective is to recall that everyone’s alertness can save lives. “”A doubt, a concern, a weak signal are sufficient“, Marty the organizers.

A campaign available everywhere and listed over time

As a reminder, the 119, national emergency number for children in danger, operates 24/7. The call is free and does not appear on any telephone statement. In 2022, more than 37,000 requests were processed there, including more than 20,000 worrying reports.

The system adapts to all audiences: an online chat is available for young people under the age of 21, a specific service is provided for deaf or hard of hearing, and a reporting form allows adults to launch an alert by Internet.

This mobilization is part of the plan to combat violence against children 2023-2027. This aims to strengthen prevention, improve detection and protection, but also to involve the whole company.

Every 5 days, a child dies under the blows of his parents

Finally, the high childhood commissioner, Sarah El Haïry, recalled the urgency of mobilization. “Every five days, in our country, a child dies under the blows of his parents, this one figure should be enough to mobilize us“.

In a press release, it still deplores too much inertia. “”But too often still, silence prevails over vigilance. Too often, we hesitate, we doubt “ calling for ending “indifference”.
