A “miracle” drink against diabetes and hypertension? Doctors denounce poisoning
A homemade fruit and oatmeal drink to eliminate diabetes and high blood pressure? The recipe shared on the networks is far too good to be true. Doctors take stock and reiterate the importance of prevention.

Too good (and too simple) to be true. According to a frequently shared Facebook and TikTok post, a drink made from fruit and oatmeal is the key to overcoming diabetes and high blood pressure. Info or fake?

A magic potion that seduces the web

The remedy promoted in the video had everything to please: a simple drink to take every day with a tasty taste, made from guava, lemon and the famous oat flakes, mixed in a glass of water. “It eliminated my 70 years of poor circulation, diabetes and high blood pressure.” supports the author during the 3 minutes of presentation. Surprising? But that’s not all.

The drink would also be effective in reducing “the problems of

foie grasdizziness, nausea, inflammation of the legs, accelerated aging, vertigo and other conditions“, indicates the narrator. To do this, it would be enough to drink a cup of this drink.”fasting for 10 days in a row and that’s it“.

The video published on March 12, 2024 now has more than 360,000 views. Internet users undoubtedly concerned about their health… who will have to be brought back to reality.

Nothing that justifies the slightest effect against diabetes and hypertension

Rest assured if you have succumbed to the said beverage. Nothing bad will happen to you, the ingredients mentioned in the composition even have several advantages according to recent studies.

  • Lemon has many virtues thanks to its high content of antioxidants and vitamin C. It is also an anti-inflammatory and an antibacterial;
  • Guava is an excellent source of dietary fiber, and also has strong antioxidant power;
  • Finally, oatmeal helps manage cholesterol, balance blood sugar and promotes gut health.

The result is therefore not bad for health in itself. But this does not make it effective against high blood pressure and diabetes. For AFP, the doctor specializing in endocrinology and metabolic diseases (such as diabetes), Paulette Djeugoue specifies:the remedy proposed in this video does not cure diabetes“, nor hypertension, another disease often associated and which unfortunately has no cure to date. “This is also valid for any other illness for which pages or accounts offer miracle solutions on the internet.” she continues. As for the other pathologies mentioned, namely “dizziness, nausea, inflammation of the legs, vertigo” the expert emphasizes that these are just symptoms.

Also contacted Béatrice Duly-Bouhanick, president of the French Society of Hypertension (SFHTA), assures that nothing in this beverage has scientifically proven effectiveness.

Be careful not to turn away from validated treatments

Video, however, poses another problem: the message transmitted. Diabetes and high blood pressure cannot be cured with three plants. On the other hand, the two diseases, sometimes intertwined, are constantly increasing and should be taken much more seriously.

According to the WHO, more than 800 million adults worldwide have diabetes today, more than four times more than in 1990. Hypertension affects 1 in 3 adults worldwide, and approximately “4 out of 5 people with high blood pressure are not treated properly” according to the same source. These two pathologies ultimately require long-term care, a change of life and serious measures to limit cardiovascular risks. And no magic potion can cure it in a few days.

As diabetologist Bernard Bauduceau, always speaking to AFP, regrets, this false and scientifically unfounded information tends to keep patients away from approved treatments. Beware of remedies presented without any scientific backing!
