According to a recent study by the Fruitz application, 66% of young French people aged 18 to 24 are ready to travel long distances to find their other half, and 41% are even considering an international relationship.

Why is “wanderlove” becoming more and more attractive?

If long-distance relationships have long been perceived as complicated, they are now seen from a completely different perspective. Several factors explain this development:

  • The teleworking boom: since the pandemic, working from wherever you want has become more accessible, making long-distance relationships easier to manage;
  • The rejection of local dating apps:
    many singles feel tired of repetitive profiles and algorithms that confine them to a restricted geographic bubble;
  • The influence of the media and social networks: from reality TV shows to the success stories of transnational couples on TikTok, distance no longer seems to be a barrier but rather an exciting adventure.

A phenomenon already well established in the world of dating

“Wanderlove” doesn’t come out of nowhere. Last year, a global study by Bumble found that a third of users were open to long-distance relationships, and 19% said it would even be easier to find a partner in another country.

For its part, Fruitz confirms this trend with a striking figure: three out of five young people believe that a long-distance relationship allows them to create stronger emotional bonds. And that makes sense: when we can’t see each other every day, we focus more on communication and emotional complicity.
