A new nesquik (without chocolate) arrives on the shelves: the opinion of an expert
The famous Nesquik brand is launching a new Milky Drink, still based on powder, but this time fruity. A boon to vary it? We asked the question to Alexandra Murcier, dietician-nutritionist.

There is new in the drinks department to taste it. Besides cocoa drinks is now a new fruity powder, under a well -known brand: a Nesquik … with a strawberry taste.

A version with strawberry flavor

Already known in other countries, this slaughter drink powder is a first in France. Nesquik keeps the formula that makes its success: it is a gourmet powder to dilute in milk, whether animal or vegetable. The whole allows you to obtain a fruity milk-shake, to taste hot or cold.

On the composition side, the product already sold out of our borders announces: sugar, maltodextrin, natural aromas, coloring (beet extract), vitamins (C, thiamine, d), minerals (magnesium carbonate, iron pyrophosphate, zinc sulfate). For a announced nutri-score.

But then, if the product allows you to vary the flavors a little at the time of the snack of your children, is this new version equal, better or worse than chocolate powder?

Sugar above all else

We have thus submitted this newcomer to Alexandra Murcier, dietician-nutritionist, to have her opinion. But according to her, this strawberry version, as delicious and varied as it is to change chocolate, has nothing to make it more balanced.

“”Strawberry as chocolate, the main ingredient of these two Nesquik is sugar (78 g / 100 g in the strawberry version, 75 g / 100 g for chocolate). It means that, literally, in a box, there are 3/4 sugar – just like in your glass“. Milk mix is therefore not better than classic.”These are two very sweet products, which must obviously be avoided to give children daily“.

As for the vitamins announced on the packages, our expert believes that we should not really take it into account. This mention could even be misleading: “To say them enriched with vitamins is, in my opinion, a false good idea, because it gives parents the impression of offering a healthy product, while these vitamins do not erase the contribution in sugar, far too important. “

Recall that overconsumption of sugar during childhood increases the risk of overweight and obesity (the share of which continues to increase in children and adolescents) and, in the long term, that of developing diabetes.

In this context, a strawberry drink, from time to time, can brighten up a snack and provide some pleasure. But a sweet drink should not be daily.
