A surgeon films himself in the process of making his own vasectomy, the video exceeds 4 million views
Dr. Chen Weinong, plastic surgeon in Taiwan, shared on his social networks a video in which we see him practicing his own vasectomy. It was seen by more than 4 million people.

This father of three wanted to make a “gift” to his wife, by choosing this mode of male contraception. He ensures that they will have no other child. Vasectomy is a surgical intervention which consists in cutting or close the deferential channels which start from the epididymis and go to the prostate. After this operation, the passage from sperm to the penis is no longer done. Sperm is then devoid of sperm.

A video for “educational” purposes

If vasectomy is no longer an operation considered to be infrequent, with more and more men who use it, the auto-vasectomy is obviously exceptional. Dr Chen’s video is also accompanied by the mention “Do not reproduce at home”. For those who would like to try the experience …

The video, published on the surgeon’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for “educational” purposes, shows Dr. Chen lying on an operating table while he seizes a scalpel and surgical clips to carry out the operation.

We see him fully aware, under local anesthesia to put his genitals to sleep. This does not prevent him from feeling intense pain during the operation. We see him adjusting suddenly behind when he is in pain, before continuously continuing the intervention.

“It was a strange feeling of touching and suturing my own urethra”

At the end of the intervention, Dr. Chen explains how he sutures the incision with Catgut, a type of wire made from hoses of animal origin. “”It was a strange feeling of touching and suturing my own urethra “he wrote on social networks.

Vasectomy is an operation that usually lasts 30 minutes but the DIY version of Dr. Chen lasted double. This is not surprising given the important effort to be made to conduct this intervention on your own body.

The surgeon wanted to reassure his followers. He said he felt some pain and discomfort at night that followed the operation, but everything had disappeared the next morning.

A supervised operation by a urologist

In the comments of the video, some salute the courage of the doctor while others question the legality of the procedure. However, local media reports that a preliminary investigation has been requested by senior health officials, and that it concluded that the procedure was not illegal. Dr. Chen said that his self-operation was carried out under the supervision of a urologist, which could have intervened at any time in the event of complications.

Self-surgery is a rare practice. The only documented cases relate to life or death situations. A famous example is that of Leonid Rogozov, a Russian doctor who was forced to practice on himself an appendectomy during a Soviet expedition in Antarctic in the 1960s. The operation was a success.
