Fried Eggs in a Cup: Much healthier and tastier than fried eggs, and ready in less than a minute in the microwave.
Between Men’s Health, Aufeminin and Peaches, the same tip panics busy mornings: the fried egg in a microwave cup. Lighter than the pan, this minute gesture promises a set white and a runny yolk without dirtying the kitchen.

A fried egg ready in less than two minutes, without taking out the pan or spending ten minutes washing the dishes? It’s possible. With a simple cup, a little olive oil and a microwave, it only takes a few tens of seconds to obtain a well-cooked white and a still runny yolk.

This tip, notably spotted by Men’s Health Spain, sespecially in the mornings when every minute counts. And it helps limit the amount of fat used for cooking.

Fried egg in a cup: the quick recipe in the microwave

To test this cooking, all you need is a microwave-safe cup, an egg, a few drops of olive oil and a pinch of salt.

Lightly oil the bottom of the cup, then carefully crack the egg into it without piercing the yolk. Cover with microwave-safe cling film, leaving a small opening for steam to escape.

Place the cup in the microwave on high for about 45 seconds, then check the white for cooking. If it is still too liquid, continue in increments of 10 to 15 seconds. Depending on the power of the device, it may be necessary to go up to 1 minute 30 minutes, or even 2 minutes.

The secret to keeping the yolk flowing? Use small steps rather than cooking everything at once to prevent the egg from becoming rubbery.

Is this cooking really better for your health?

The main advantage of this method is that it requires very little fat. But that’s not enough to make fried eggs the most nutritionally interesting cooking option.

As nutritionist Alexandra Murcier points out, the higher the temperature and the more fat we add, the more the egg can lose some of its qualities. Cooking at high temperatures can in particular promote the oxidation of lipids.

To best preserve the nutritional qualities of the egg, the expert recommends gentle cooking, such as soft-boiled, soft-boiled or poached eggs. A hard-boiled egg is also a good option, especially because it can be prepared in advance.

The fried egg in the microwave therefore remains above all a quick tip: practical, not very messy and allowing you to limit added fats, but not necessarily the most protective cooking for the nutritional qualities of the egg.

How to personalize your egg in the microwave?

Once the technique has been mastered, a few fresh herbs, a pinch of paprika, pepper or a little grated cheese are enough to change the result.

The only precaution: always use a container suitable for the microwave and never close the cup tightly to let the steam escape.
