It’s theEuropean Journal of Nutrition Who says it: based on data from 15 scientific studies, researchers conclude that eating a little cheese every day could reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, including stroke. You still have to know how to stop in time. Because between a spoon of ricotta and a slice of parmesan, nutritional intake vary at all.
How much cheese can you eat every day without harming your heart?
The good news is that even so -called “fat” cheeses can find their place in a balanced diet. Provided you do not make it a main dish. Nutritionists agree on thresholds to be observed according to the type of cheese. The fat and salt contained in some of them can indeed increase the cardiovascular note.
The study relayed by theEuropean Journal of Nutrition recommends limiting your daily consumption to 40 to 50 grams of low oily cheeses, such as ricotta or some fresh goats, which contain between 8 and 12 % fat. These are the softest options for the body.
But if you are more a fan of camembert or brie, know that these soft cheeses reach 20 % of fat. It is therefore better to limit itself to 30 grams per day to stay in the nails without feeling guilty.
Not all cheeses are equal: how to make the right choice?
To see more clearly, a simple glance at the texture is sometimes enough to identify the richest:
- Fresh cheeses (ricotta, faisselle, fresh goat): between 8 and 12 % fat;
- Soft pasta (Camembert, Brie): about 20 %;
- Pasta in a hurry (Comté, Parmesan): between 35 and 40 %.
The latter, more concentrated in dry matters, are therefore much more fatty and should be consumed in smaller quantities.
Another point of vigilance: the salt content. Some cheeses such as the feta or the Blues explode the meters. In case of hypertension, they are to be avoided. To counterbalance, accompanying your cheese with a green salad can make all the difference. Potassium contained in leafy vegetables would indeed reduce the hypertensive effect of salt.
Eating cheese every day is a good idea?
On the nutritional level, cheese remains an interesting source of protein, calcium, phosphorus, potassium or even zinc. It can therefore perfectly integrate into a varied diet, provided that it does not exceed the recommended quantity.
In summary, no need to give up this daily pleasure. The whole thing is to know how to dose: 30 to 50 g maximum per day depending on the type of cheese, and to avoid the most salty varieties if you are subject to hypertension. And if you have a doubt, a salad sheet can sometimes do more for your heart than a second piece of Reblochon.
