Hospital and clinic rankings 2025: Le Point unveils its new ranking. Where is your city located?
On December 4, Le Point published its long-awaited ranking of hospitals and clinics. An important meeting which highlights the know-how and technical expertise of French establishments. Who are those on the podium this year?

It’s back on newsstands! This December 4, The Point
published its latest ranking of hospitals and clinics. For this 2025 edition, the weekly draws on an unprecedented database: nearly 29.7 million anonymized medical records and more than 1,100 ultra-detailed questionnaires completed by establishments. With 137 classifications covering 85 disciplines, this new vintage offers a photograph of the French healthcare system with rare precision.

A methodology reinforced since last year

To establish this ranking, Le Point has chosen since last year to highlight the most experienced teams, capable of dealing with complex situations and having a complete service in each discipline evaluated.
The establishments had to answer a demanding questionnaire of 348 questions, covering technical equipment as well as internal organization, human skills, training, clinical research and even therapeutic education programs.

At the same time, the journalists analyzed 29.7 million anonymized medical records from the PMSI database. This intersection between raw data and qualitative information makes it possible to nuance what the figures alone do not say: the presence of specialized personnel, the operation of emergencies, the level of expertise of the teams, the overall care of patients, or even the commitment of establishments to innovation.

A list enriched with many new features

The 2025 edition introduces a series of significant developments that reflect the transformations in medicine and the needs of patients.

  • Breast cancer classification now distinguishes mastectomies with immediate reconstruction from mastectomies alone, allowing a more detailed reading of practices;
  • In ENT, maxillofacial flap reconstructions are entering the analysis, a sign of increasing attention to complex surgeries;
  • Lung cancer is now evaluated in its entirety, and not only through surgical activity. An evolution which reflects the multidisciplinary nature of this pathology;
  • Pediatric pulmonology
    benefits from a new specific classification, while the section dedicated to diabetes places greater emphasis on the prevention of complications and therapeutic education;
  • The field of mental health
    is deeply enriched, with four new classifications dedicated to depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and post-traumatic stress. A welcome recognition for a sector that has long been under-analyzed;
  • Finally, the F-CRIN networks (INSERM) are included in the indicators dedicated to clinical research, reinforcing the scientific dimension of the ranking.

The big winners in the public sector

Unsurprisingly for observers, the Toulouse University Hospital once again occupies first place in the general ranking in the public sector. The establishment has established itself as the national reference, thanks to its recognized excellence in numerous disciplines.

It is followed by Bordeaux University Hospitalthen
Lille University Hospitaltwo establishments whose regularity is praised from one year to the next.

The rankings also highlight the spectacular progress of several regional hospitals. The La Roche-sur-Yon CH gained ten places, while Valenciennes progressed by nine places – climbs significant enough to illustrate the dynamics of certain territories.

Private non-profit: Paris Saint-Joseph remains in the lead

On the side of private establishments of collective interest, theParis Saint-Joseph Hospital retains its first place and ranks 13th overall. The establishment thus confirms its status as a national benchmark, recognized for the quality of its teams and the diversity of its care.

The private sector: Reims-Bezannes as leader

In the lucrative private sector, Reims-Bezannes Polyclinic tops the rankings. She is ahead
Santé Atlantique (Saint-Herblain) and the
Ambroise-Paré–Hartmann Group (Neuilly-sur-Seine)two major players in private medicine and surgery.

A transparency tool for a health system under pressure

THE Hospital and clinic rankings du Point has established itself over the years as an essential reference for patients, families but also professionals. In a context marked by difficulty recruiting, saturated emergencies and teams sometimes running out of steam, it highlights what many forget: the resilience and excellence of thousands of professionals who innovate every day.

As Gwendoline Dos Santos, author of the survey, points out:
“This ranking highlights the resilience and excellence of the teams who, every day, innovate for the health of the French people. It offers citizens clear benchmarks to navigate a complex healthcare system.”

Beyond the ranking, the objective is clear: to help the French understand the healthcare offering, to identify the most competent establishments for a given pathology and to guide themselves in an informed manner.

The entire ranking is available on lepoint.fr and on newsstands since December 4, at the price of €8.90.
