What if some pilates sessions could transform the intimate life of millions of women? A new scientific study shows that this gentle practice could relieve female sexual disorders and improve global satisfaction.

A scientific study on 93 premenopausal women

Published in the journal BMC Urologythis research followed 93 premenopausal women aged 18 to 50, all in stable couple. For 12 weeks, half of them followed a Pilates program, the other half has retained its habits.

The sessions lasted 60 minutes, twice a week, with a warm -up, targeted exercises of pilates and a relaxation time. At the end of the study, only the Pilates group participants found significant changes.

Spectacular results on sexual function

Twelve weeks later, the women of the Pilates group displayed a striking transformation. On the FSFI scale, they brought in a clear progression in the six areas studied: a rekindled sexual desire, a more intense excitation, a more effective lubrication, an increased ease to reach orgasm, a reinforced overall satisfaction and a significant decrease in pain during the reports. On average, these improvements exceeded 95 % compared to initial scores, a figure particularly rare in this type of study.

In parallel, the results at the BDI showed a significant drop in depressive symptoms, suggesting that the Pilates also had a positive impact on mood and emotional balance.

These results suggest that the regular practice of Pilates is not limited to a mechanical effect on the pelvic floor, but that it also promotes a better connection between body and mind. This synergy contributes to improving not only sexual health, but also self-confidence and psychological well-being.

The key role of the pelvic floor and body consciousness

By hiring deep muscles and promoting controlled breathing, Pilates acts directly on the pelvic floor, essential in female sexuality. This bodily work, combined with better concentration and reduction in stress, contributes to improving the quality of intimate relationships.

The study also stresses that this non-drug approach could be beneficial in dyspareunia, that is to say the pains felt during reports, often linked to muscle tensions or imbalances.

A natural alternative to conventional treatments

While drugs and therapies are commonly prescribed for sexual disorders, the Pilates offers an additional, accessible and without side effects. The researchers nevertheless recall that the studied sample remains limited and that other works will have to confirm these results on larger and diverse populations.
