  • Helps to provide relief to pre-menstrual symptoms

You can purchase this contraceptive only with a doctorā€™s prescription and taken as directed to ensure the best results.Ā

Marvelon 21, is a birth control pill that you take for 21 days at the same time every day, followed by seven (7) pill-free days. You should complete another 21-day after the pill-free days.

No preceding use of hormonal contraceptives in the past month

It is preferable to take the first pill on the first day of your period in which case, there is no need for additional contraceptive methods. However, if the menstruation is already on the second, third, or fourth day, you should take the pill on the fifth day; in this case, you should use of additional non-hormonal contraceptives for the first seven days.Ā

Who Can Use Marvelon?

Taking any medication should be based on the advice of a licensed medical professional. Anyone with any underlying medical condition, as mentioned above, should consult the doctor family planning nurse or doctor first.

If you are pregnant or suspect to be pregnant, stop taking Marvelon immediately and seek advice from your doctor. Also, breastfeeding women should not use the pill as it can affect the milk product; only use it after weaning. Adolescents below the age of 18 should seek advice from doctors before using Marvelon as there the safety and efficacy of desogestrel at the said age are not yet established.

How Does Marvelon Work?

Marvelon injects your body with synthetic versions of the feminine hormones estrogen and progesterone. These hormones work to prevent conception by doing the following stopping the release of an egg from your ovaries, making it more difficult for sperm to access an egg by thickening the fluid around the cervix. It also makes the uterine lining thinner, which results to a more difficult path for a fertilized egg to implant.

How Long Does It Take Marvelon to Work?
Depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle when you start taking Marvelon, you may or may not be protected from pregnancy right away. Nevertheless, you will be protected from pregnancy from the first to the fifth day of your cycle. On the other hand, you will need to use extra protection for 7 days after day 5 of your cycle to be protected.

Marvelon Effectivity
When used correctly, Marvelon is nearly 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. However, conditions such as forgetting to take a pill, being sick or diarrhea (which inhibits it from being absorbed into your body), and taking some other drugs can limit Marvelon’s effectiveness to 91 percent. This is the same as other forms of contraception.

Furthermore, you should keep in mind that the pill will not protect you from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). To avoid contracting an STI, you must use a condom.

Missing a Marvelon Pill
When you miss a pill, what you should do depends on how many you’ve missed.

If you miss a pill or forget to start your fresh strip, even if it means taking two medications at once, take the missed pill. Then carry on as usual with the strip. Pregnancy will not be a problem for you. However, if your strip runs out within 6 days of skipping a pill, skip the 7-day pause and start a new strip right away.

If you get sick or have diarrhea within 3 to 4 hours of taking your pill, your body may not have fully absorbed the hormones. You should treat this as though you’ve forgotten to take medicine. If you’re still sick or have diarrhea, you should see a pharmacist or nurse for help.

If you’ve forgotten two or more medications, you should take your tablet as usual once you recall. Since you may not be protected from pregnancy for the next seven days, you should utilize supplementary contraception. If you haven’t taken your pill in a while and have had unprotected sex, you’ll need to utilize emergency contraception.

Marvelon Side Effects
Many ladies take Marvelon and have no negative side effects. However, some women may experience Marvelon side effects as a result of the hormonal changes, especially during the first three months of using Marvelon as your body adjusts. If side symptoms are hurting your everyday life or haven’t gone away after 3 months, speak to your doctor or mail a doctor.

Aside from the common Marvelon pill acne side effect, it can also cause a dangerous side effect that has an immediate impact on your health in rare cases: blood clots. If you experience symptoms of a blood clot, stop taking Marvelon and call your doctor right once. The Patient Information Leaflet describes how to recognize a blood clot. Sudden loss of eyesight, intense chest pain, inexplicable swelling or discomfort in one or both legs, coughing up blood, and shortness of breath are some of the symptoms.
