Beat eyelash, a sign of seduction beyond your expectations? It would not be a myth. In reality, the size of your eyelashes could be an explicit sign for your male interlocutors if we are to believe a new British study.
You have beautiful eyelashes, you know
Published in the journal Archives of sexual behaviorthe study reveals that the length of the eyelashes does not only influence the perception of attractiveness and health, but also that of sexual availability.
To verify these hypotheses, the team recruited 120 volunteers via the Prolific platform, including 77 men, with an average age of 32 years. All had to assess female faces generated by computer thanks to DAZ3D software. These virtual faces belonged to four ethnic groups (Asian, black, Indians and Whites), but only differ on one point: the length of the eyelashes. For each face, eleven variants have been created, ranging from eyelash completely absent to a length equivalent to half the width of the eye.
The participants then had to note each face according to three distinct criteria: perceived state of health, attractiveness and “sexual receptivity”. That is to say the impression of openness to more or less serious relationships.
An impression that is due to a eyelash
According to researcher Farid Pazhoohi, the most attractive eyelashes are neither too short nor excessively long. The balance point would be about a third of the width of the eye (take out your decimeters!). By the way, the eyelashes can give an impression of poor health or aging; Beyond that, they seem artificial and less harmonious. This observation joins other works showing that moderate eyelashes valued the gaze without weighing it down, and that they remain a subtle sign of vitality.
But the study does not stop there. On a panel of 120 participants, female faces with longer eyelashes than the “ideal standard” were deemed less attractive, but paradoxically more sexually receptive. In other words, very long – natural or artificial eyelashes like false eyelashes – could unconsciously be interpreted as a sign of openness to fleeting relationships.
“The results suggest that long eyelashes, even perceived as less beautiful, can serve as a social signal for openness to meetings without tomorrow” explains the researcher.
The length of the eyelashes would not only shape the aesthetics of the gaze, but also the social and unconscious messages it conveys.
From mascara to red nails: same implicit codes
This phenomenon echoes another popular trend, the famous “red nail theory” widely relayed on Tiktok which we had already talked about. This argues that varnished nails in red would more attract male attention. Behind the anecdote hides a strong cultural symbolism: for decades, the red color has been associated with seduction, power and femininity.
Of course, neither endless eyelashes nor a scarlet varnish guarantee love at first sight. Specialists recall that attraction depends on a multitude of factors, far beyond these visual signals. But these small touches – whether eyelashes or varnishes – reveal how our seduction codes are anchored in unconscious associations, between biology, culture and collective imagination. To know before going out.
