Overpower
Washing up every day is perhaps a habit that you have always adopted. But in reality, washing 3 to 4 times a week is enough to stay clean, unless you are very dirty or have sweated a lot. When we wash, we remove the natural lipid film and good bacteria that protect our skin. Taking a shower every day can therefore dry the skin, which promotes itching and small lesions, allowing pathogenic bacteria to penetrate the skin.
It is not said enough but when you leave the skin in contact with “daily normal dirt” and bacteria, this strengthens our immune system.
Use an unsuitable soap
If you use an antibacterial soap for your toilet, you may unbalance your skin flora, supposed to protect you from external aggressions. In addition, aggressive soaps can dry the skin. This is why it is recommended to wash with a soap based on vegetable oil (olive, sweet almond), with soft sorts without perfume or hydrating shower gels.
Do not wash your towels on a regular basis
In the bathroom, bad habits do not only concern the toilet. Do not neglect the washing of your towels. As a reminder, a damp towel is a microbes nest. If you do not frequently wash your towels, you could end up with nail mycosis, inguinal itching (between toes) or even an athlete foot (mycosis of the foot). To avoid all these inconveniences, do not use your towel for more than a week and make sure that it is dry before drying with it.
Wash with very hot water
A good hot shower is pleasant and comforting when it is a cold duck outside. But this is not without consequences for your skin. Burning water eliminates the natural lipid film present on the surface of the skin, which can dry and irritate it. Better not to stay in the shower too long (5 to 10 minutes) and use hot water but not burning, especially if you have eczema or psoriasis.
Take hair too often
Washing your hair every day is not necessary, unless your hair grew quickly. If you have curly, thick or colored hair, wash them as little as possible so as not to make them dry. Try to space washes and see how your hair is doing. Even if you play sports or tend to sweat, it is better to keep your usual washing pace. With age, the scalp produces less sebum, so there is no need to make shampoos too often.
Never wash your shower head
The shower head is the ideal place for the proliferation of bacteria, which like to nest in the small damp and dark holes. But when the water flows, these bacteria can find themselves in the air you breathe. Remember to clean your shower head by leaving it for a few minutes in hot water and vinegar, to clean the holes where the water circulates.
Do not hydrate your skin after the shower
Hot water can dry the skin. Remember to apply a lotion, cream or moisturizing milk on your body out of the shower, after you have dried.
Never wash your shower curtain
Like the shower head, the shower curtain can contain bacteria and mushrooms. The soap residues that accumulate there do not represent any danger for most people. On the other hand, if your immune system is weakened, this can be problematic. Clean or change your shower curtain regularly to preserve your health.
Use soap where it should not be
Certain parts of the body are self -cleaning and should not be spoken to stay clean. This is the case with the vagina. Natural vaginal secretions eliminate dead cells and pathogens. So no need to put water and soap inside, you might unbalance the vaginal flora, promoting the appearance of vaginal yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.
Never wash your shower flower
Shower flowers or horsehair gloves allow you to exfoliate the skin without attacking it. But like the toilet gloves, they are the perfect hiding place for germs. It is advisable to wash them once a week by soaking them in diluted bleach for five minutes, before rinsing them well. If your shower flower is in natural fibers, change it every 3 to 4 weeks. If it is made of plastic, change it every 2 months.
