Train journeys: this free screen-free activity is already attracting parents
While screens often dominate train journeys, an innovative initiative offers audio activities to captivate children in a different way. Trainline and Yoto are teaming up to offer guided audio drawings, a free and creative solution to keep young ones occupied during journeys.

During train journeys, screens remain omnipresent among families. However, a large majority of parents say they are ready to do without it if a captivating activity is offered. With this in mind, Trainline and Yoto are launching a free collection of guided audio drawings for children.

As vacation departures approach, many parents are looking for ways to make the trip more enjoyable. The journey can indeed seem long for the youngest, and screens often become the easy solution.

A strong expectation for screen-free activities

According to a OnePoll study carried out for Trainline among 2,000 French parents in May 2026, 71% of parents regularly use screens to keep their children occupied while traveling. But 88% say they would happily choose an activity without a screen if it captured their attention as much. The study also reveals that 87% consider the train to be a setting conducive to children’s exploration and expression.

Guided drawings to stimulate the imagination

To meet this expectation, Trainline and Yoto are offering, from July 8 to September 1, a free collection of 12 audio episodes, including seven new ones, inspired by the podcast’s “Draw with me” format. The Mini Journal. Guided solely by voice, children are invited to draw and invent their own worlds throughout the journey.

For Anne Peymirat, parenting expert and author, the train offers a special time to slow down, observe and talk as a family. She reminds us that the objective is not to exclude screens at all costs, but to offer simple alternatives that are sufficiently engaging to nourish creativity and bonds between parents and children.
