Viagra for Women – Is There Any Such Drug?

Viagra is a widely used and fairly popular drug among men. Since the medicine was developed two decades ago it changed the sex life for milions of men. In a way, this has caused some questions among women as well. It is worth asking if Viagra would help enhance the female sexual experience in the same manner.

Can women use Viagra?

To put things rather simply, no – Viagra was designed to treat male impotence and erectile dysfunction and has absolutely no effect on the female sexual function. The reason behind this lies in big differences in physiology of female and male sexuality. Viagra is made to increase the blood flow to the penis, which allows men to achieve and maintain a stable erection

A common misconception can lead some people to believe that it somehow incites sexual arousal, which is not the case – men still need physical and mental stimulation in order to get expected results with Viagra. It basically stops certain mechanisms in the male body that would otherwise pose a challenge to a satisfactory sexual conduct.

How do women and men compare in terms of sexual functioning?

When Viagra was in the early development phase, it was actually planned as a drug for the treatment of atherosclerosis and angina. The clinical studies at the time had shown that it had a beneficial effect on erectile dysfunction. The rest is history – it has become a game changer for millions of couples, enabling men to have erections without having to worry about inconveniences.

This is the gist of the problem – while men require a relatively stable erection, which requires sufficient blood flow, in order to have sex, sexual function of a woman has nothing to do with it. For women, to have pleasurable intercourse, the prerequisite is arousal, which leads to sufficient lubrication. Women can technically have sex even if they are not aroused, although this makes the experience quite inconvenient and even painful. If you are struggling to reach the point where you are aroused enough, you should dedicate more time and make room for foreplay.

Here the most important role in vaginal lubrication is played by Oestrogen – it actually governs the levels of moisture in the walls of the vagina. Normally, levels of Oestrogen vary and depend on numerous factors. So if you are experiencing insufficient lubrication, it could be due to various underlying reasons. Such issues can occur due to stress, breastfeeding, menopause and use of some hormonal medication. For more information about possible causes and treatment, you should consult with your chosen gynecologist.

Is there any drug like Viagra for women?

The term “Viagra for women” has been used for a variety of herbal supplements made from natural ingredients. Usually, you may find some of these in a local grocery store or even in your household, for example chocolate, chilli peppers, honey and pistachio nuts. Although there are many ways to enhance the sexual experience with various aphrodisiacs and natural supplements, there are no guarantees. Advertised supplements normally do not contain active ingredients and cannot replace medication.

One example of a popular food supplement is Prelox, advertised as an enhancer of female pleasure, it can be legally purchased in the UK. Prelox comes with a number of positive reviews and many women reported that it helped with their sex life. As it is not a medical device, you cannot be completely sure that it will help.

Another drug worth noting is called “Flibanserin”, sold in the US under the brand name “Addyi”. At the moment, it is not licenced or approved for sale in the UK. Similarly to Viagra and Cialis, it was created to treat sexual dysfunction.Unlike Viagra, it was created for the treatment of depression, as it was supposed to influence brain activity. The studies have shown that it was a bit better at tackling lower sex drive. The pill was designed to be taken daily, so not immediately before having sex. Although it has shown some success in treatment, Addyi has mixed reviews, so it is unclear how helpful it is and whether it owes the success to placebo. There have also been reports of side-effects such as nausea, fatigue, fainting and dizziness. As previously mentioned, this drug cannot be purchased in the UK, so you should avoid sellers offering it without a proper medical license.

Instead of making a firm conclusion, we can only advise that you always check with a medical professional before you decide to use any supplement or medication. If you would like to improve or enhance your sex life, there are plenty of ways that include far more than just magic pills. Spend more time together or make a change in your daily routine, travel, talk, cuddle, spice up your sexual life with something interesting or new or consult with a professional in order to find out ways to relieve stress.
