We only talk about them. GLP-1 drugs, such as Ozempic, have become extremely popular in recent years, especially for their efficiency in weight loss. Note, however, that the Ozempic is intended for diabetics, anti-obeessive drugs of the same therapeutic class are Wegovy or Mounjaro. Very requested in the United States, they are also prescribed in France as anti-obesity treatment and are no longer reserved for specialists since last June. But these would not be trivial: nausea, constipation, abdominal pains are regularly mentioned by patients.
What is the “vulva ozempic”?
On social networks and forums, some women describe notable changes in their vulva after losing a lot of weight under GLP-1.
On Reddit, an American forum, a user reveals: “I lost all the adipose pads of my vulva! My gynecologist told me that my vulva was sagged and that I would continue to feel pain by cycling or sitting down.” She is not the only one. After several weeks of use, several voices reveal local symptoms on networks such as:
- A skin relaxation of the vulva;
- An impression of subsidence linked to the loss of fatty pads;
- A vaginal drought;
- A weakness of the pelvic floor muscles, sometimes associated with discomfort during activities such as bicycle or prolonged sitting position.
A local effect linked to rapid weight loss
However, this term of Vulva Ozempic has no medical recognition. Specialists recall that this is not a direct effect of drugs, but a secondary consequence of rapid and significant weight loss.
For the gynecologist Odile Bagot, consulted, the situation is explained by the disappearance of the adipose tissues which give their volume to the Mont de Venus and the large lips.
“Relaxation is linked not to the drug itself, but to the weight loss caused by these drugs. It is completely clear” she restores.
Drought is also a consequence of fatty mass loss.
“You should know that obese women produce estrogens in their fatty fabric. When fatty mass decreases, their estrogen level can drop slightly. This is a plausible explanation. But it must be specified: this is not a specific effect of drugs, it is linked to the loss of fat mass that they induce”.
Finally, when the skin and connective tissues do not have time to adapt, an impression of relaxation appears, in the same way as on other areas of the body after rapid weight loss. The gynecologist recalls, however, that this is a phenomenon expected in any context of massive weight loss, whether induced by a diet, bariatric surgery or drug treatments.
Vulva Ozempic, how to react?
However, these effects can be confusing and unpleasant for women concerned. How to better manage or accept them?
Management is not surgical at first. Several solutions exist:
- Pelvic floor physiotherapy and kegel exercises to strengthen muscles;
- Lubricants and vaginal moisturizers ;
- Topical estrogens If menopause or a hormonal decline is involved;
- Maintain progressive weight lossassociated with muscle training, to limit the loss of tone.
So as to regain intimate comfort and self -confidence, especially after a great weight loss.
