Exit rosé and sweet cans, long live health drinks! For several months, everywhere on the web, we only see they: new “well-being” drinks enriched with vitamins, minerals and natural ingredients, which promise more than simple hydration. Yass, Ciao Kombucha or Airup thus promise to support energy, concentration, digestion or even sleep. Rightly? Alexandra Murcier, dietitian-nutritionist, gives us her opinion.
“Natural” drinks, which care about the well-being of consumers
Hydrateing is no longer enough: drinks should now help us get better in an ultra stressful daily life. Thus, Yass, a new soda with prebiotics and apple cider vinegar, hopes (very soon) to dethrone the coca with well -established health arguments. And on this ground, the French group behind the drink (Solinest), strong: flashy colors, humor peaks (“Strawberry and lemon is a bit like your ex and your bestie. You wouldn’t have bet on it, but in reality they are too good together“), and well-being promises in Gogo:” prebiotic fibers “or” digestive comfort “are some of the mentions displayed on said cans.
However, do they really do good to our organization? Do these colored cans represent a better option than water? On paper, Yass seems to keep his promise. “”It contains three to four times less sugar than most of these gasped drinks: about three grams per 100ml, against 10.6 for Coca-Cola“, Specifies the media BFM RMC Conso.
A composition that is not trivial according to our nutritionist
However, Alexandra Murcier wishes to warn consumers: these drinks remain chemical and ultra transformed.
“Their marketing is treated, but their composition is much less. They are full of sweeteners, which must be really avoided in the long term because they disrupt blood sugar. Aspartame, in particular, has just been classified as a carcinogenic potential”, she alerts.
The real problem of these drinks, ultimately, is that they suggest that we can consume all the time, “Because they play on the “healthy” side, due to their benefits, which completely makes you forget the additives they contain. They must therefore remain in exceptional consumption and especially do not become “daily”, even less in children and adolescents who are even more sensitive to the harmful of sweeteners and who must consume doses lower than adults. You can offer in alternative to flavor your water yourself: a net of lemon juice, it is healthier and cheaper “, reveals the nutritionist.
And on the side of drinks enriched with vitamins?
The drinks marketed in France such as Vitamin Well, Evian+, Nestlé Pure Life, Vitamont, Biogroup or D+ For Care- Enriched in vitamins B, C, D or Magnesium – still play the card of immunity, energy or potential detox effects here. But in fact, our body does not need additional vitamins – other than those provided in food – when it is balanced.
“For drinks enriched with vitamins, like the” vitamin waaters “, it is also a lot of marketing, because the vitamins are sensitive to the lights. Result, once integrated into bottles of transparent water, they deteriorate quickly …”, concludes Alexandra Murcier, dietician-nutritionist.
