You don't always think about it, but this little part of the body must remain clean permanently
According to a dermatologist, an area of our body would be too little cleaned daily, but could however be the seat of ugly infections. The response of Dr Gérald Kierzek, medical director of True Medical.

Do you know how to wash yourself properly, that is to say in every corner? Not so sure. A recent article by True Medical told us: some areas do not see the toilet glove so often. It was the navel, the spaces between the toes, the legs, the underside of the nails … and the back of the ears. But it is this last point which worries a dermatologist, quoted by the media Parade.

A bacteria nest located behind the ear

According to Dr. Roger Kapoor, American dermatologist, this part of the body is indeed rich in dirt, sebum and dead skin, and yet people rarely think of cleaning it. “Bacteria” wedged ‘in the fold can migrate to open wounds, such as ear piercings or scratches inside the ear, and trigger dangerous infections “he added. A detail? Not for the expert. According to him, in serious cases, these infections can spread to other parts of the body and enter the blood circulation.

Although rare, this could lead to potentially fatal septicemia: when the body attacks its own tissues, causing the progressive stop of the organs. All because you forgot to rub behind the ear.

More likely odors and irritation

For Dr Gérald Kierzek, medical director of True Medical, it is indeed important to take care of this forgotten area. “It is even one of the areas that we look at in case of dubious hygiene”he assures.

“Washing behind the ears is important, because this area, often forgotten, easily accumulates sebum, sweat, residue of hair products and dead skin. Unlike other parts of the body regularly cleaned, this skin fold can become a nest with bacteria or fungi (like dermatitis), especially if we wear glasses, headers or long hair.”

Bad hygiene at this location can lead to unpleasant odors, irritation, even minor infections (like folliculitis). “This gesture is therefore part of a complete hygiene, in the same way as cleaning the navel or interdressal spaces”he underlines.

How to clean this space well?

Nothing complicated, however, to be clean from feet to the head. “A quick passage with a soapy toilet glove or a gentle cleaner is enough to eliminate impurities. In case of sensitive skin, a careful rinsing avoids irritating soap residues”indicates our expert. Likewise, wash the branches of glasses regularly can also be useful, as they are based behind the ears and can easily transfer bacteria to the skin.

You still have to think about it.
