Fries are one of those classics that we never get tired of, even when we’re short on time. However, their frozen version often has a bad reputation: too fatty, too salty, too processed… An image that does not always correspond to reality.
Like frozen vegetables, ready-to-cook fries can be part of a balanced meal, provided they are chosen carefully. Freezing allows you to preserve most of the vitamins and minerals in foods. However, it remains important to check their composition to avoid those that are too rich in additives or saturated fats.
Two references acclaimed by Yuka
It is precisely this cliché that is shaking up a product widely praised by users of Yuka, the application which evaluates the nutritional quality of our food. Two references of frozen fries obtain a score of 90/100, and are classified as “excellent”:
- McCain House Side : long and thin, they are quick to prepare and perfect for an impromptu meal;
- McCain Côté Brasserie : thicker and slightly curved, they are distinguished by their crispness and soft interior.
A simple and balanced composition
On paper, these fries look like all the others. In reality, they stand out with a much healthier composition: few saturated fats, a salt content limited to 0.4 g per 100 g, and less than 0.5 g of sugars. Figures significantly lower than the department average. In fact, some similar products can contain up to four times more salt.
Their list of ingredients remains short: no unnecessary additives, a good fiber intake and a reasonable amount of protein. A balance which undoubtedly explains their excellent rating.
Easy to prepare, without adding fat
Another advantage: their ease of use. Whether in the fryer, in the oven or in the air fryer, they can be prepared in just a few minutes. In the last two cases, there is no need to add fat. In short, these fries allow you to combine pleasure and reason: a quick, delicious and relatively healthy side dish.
