Scam at the start of the school year: beware of these false sites which promise to reveal your child's class
How before each school year, would you like to know the class in which your child will evolve? On the web, new sites promise you in preview … But be careful because they want your personal data.

A classic. As the start of the school year approaches, many parents seek to know which class will be affected their child and with which teacher. A way to reassure your child, prepare for your school year, know which friends, he or she will find … But the information is often late. Please note, a new scam is trying to thrive on this parental impatience.

Sites that play on your impatience

Under names like maficheclasse.fr, see maclasse.com or Revealclasse.fr, several sites ensure that you can provide you with this information. UFC-Que Choosing Alert: These websites actually hide a large scam intended to extract personal data.

These platforms skillfully take up the graphic codes of institutional sites: tricolor logo, official colors, typography recalling the administration. What to deceive families in search of reliable information.

Upon arrival on the page, the Internet user is invited to provide several information:

  • Last name and first name of the child;
  • School establishment;
  • Sometimes date of birth and contact details of parents.

Once these data have been entered, the site promises to display the class, but actually offers to click on external links … and of course no official information on the establishment

A well -established trap for stressed parents

According to UFC-Que Choisir and Signal-Arnques, these scams always follow the same diagram:

  1. Collection of sensitive personal data;
  2. Redirection to third -party sites that require to fill out “missions” (install applications, participate in competitions, respond to surveys);
  3. In some cases, automatic registration for hidden paid subscriptions.

At the end of the process, when it is too late to retract. No information is provided on the child’s class. But the data collected can be used for commercial or fraudulent purposes.

It is not the first year that these fraudulent sites appear. The national gendarmerie and consumer associations recall that no official site allows you to know in advance the composition of the classes.
This information is considered confidential and is only communicated on the day of the start of the school year, or the day before, via the official platforms used by the establishment (Pronote, Direct School, Charlemagne, my digital office, etc.).

National education insists: “This is confidential information that school leaders do not disseminate and that one would not give to an external site. “

Good reflexes to avoid scam

To avoid scam, the UFC site recalls the essential precautions:

  • Never provide personal data on a site whose address or appearance seems suspicious to you;
  • Check that the site is well attached to the school or a known platform (Pronote, ENT, etc.);
  • Beware of promises too beautiful to be true: no one can reveal the class before the start of the school year;
  • If in doubt, consult directly the official website of the establishment or contact the secretariat.

And showing patience: the only reliable way to discover the final class of your child will therefore be waiting for next Monday!
