While they had been trying to become parents for a long time, Mia and Chad Kaercher managed to have a baby naturally right after their son arrived via surrogate. A miraculous birth according to them, which can however “explain“, according to Dr. Odile Bagot, obstetrician-gynecologist.
After a series of unsuccessful attempts, Mia becomes pregnant naturally
Having a baby can be a long, bumpy road, and Mia and Chad Kaercher know that.
After their marriage in 2023, this American couple quickly began to want a child, but the young woman was unable to get pregnant naturally. They then undergo a battery of examinations and resort to IVF (in vitro fertilization) several times, without success.
Saddened but determined, Mia and Chad decide to turn to surrogacy. The couple quickly found a compatible surrogate mother. An unexpected “match” for lovers.
“We were told that it generally took around two years, with long months of waiting before being matched with a compatible person. explains Mia in the columns of People.
In January 2025, the couple’s embryo is transferred to the surrogate mother. And the transfer works! Mia and Chad are over the moon. “We had never had a successful transfer before, so hearing that it had worked seemed unreal.”underlines the mother-to-be. But life still has a nice surprise in store for them: against all expectations, Mia is a few weeks pregnant.
Their first surrogacy baby, Woods, was born on September 26, 2025, in perfect health. A few weeks later, Cohyn, their naturally conceived daughter, was born. A double happiness for the parents, who did not expect such an outcome.
“Our son smiles all the time. At three and a half months, he really notices his sister and looks at her with great tenderness. Being the mother of our two babies is the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. I feel like I have found my purpose and I have never been happier. Everything seems to have happened exactly as it was supposed to happen”, confides the young mother.
How to explain a natural pregnancy after proven infertility?
If the story of Mia and Chad can only be moving, Dr Odile Bagot believes that the arrival of little Cohyn, their naturally conceived daughter, is in no way a “miracle”.
“This couple presents “unexplained infertility” and most of these infertilities – which sometimes persist for years – are either multifactorial or without a clearly identifiable cause. But in both cases, pregnancy is never impossible. It is not a miracle, it happens, and this pregnancy is in no way linked to a pseudo letting go”, recalls the expert.
Here, as a bonus, Mia and Chad are young (barely thirty years old) and are not without a uterus, eggs or sperm. The proof, they had viable embryos. In other words, the fact that Mia managed to get pregnant naturally after years of trying is not miraculous: “it’s a simple matter of statistics. You’re not going to be able to get pregnant 10, 15, 20 times, and the 21st time works.”
“Fertility is therefore above all “a matter of probabilities”. There are no pseudo-emotional obstacles, which disappear. These psychological explanations especially destabilize couples who are trying to conceive and are a little too easy”, concludes Dr Odile Bagot.
