Frequently Asked Questions

What is Stugeron?

Stugeron is a drug used to treat balance or movement problems symptoms, which may include dizziness or lightheadedness, feeling sick (nausea), or being sick.

It contains cinnarizine, which is an antihistamine and calcium channel blocker. This ingredient is commonly prescribed against nausea and vomiting due to motion sickness, chemotherapy, vertigo, or problems with balance, like Ménière’s disease.

How do Stugeron Tablets work?

The active ingredient cinnarizine blocks the effects of histamine, which your body releases when experiencing motion or travel sickness. When the histamines are successfully intercepted, it stops the symptoms of travel sickness, such as nausea and feeling sick.

Also, unlike other antihistamines, cinnarizine will make you feel sleepy, which is why it’s called a drowsy or sedating antihistamine.

How long does it take for Cinnarizine Tablets to work? The active ingredient in Stugeron works gradually. It can take up to four (4) hours after taking the tablet before you can feel the drug’s full effect.

Stugeron dosage

As mentioned, you should follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist when taking this medication. Stugeron dosage may vary depending on two (2) factors: age and type of sickness.

For adults and children 12 years old and above who want to prevent travel sickness, two (2) tablets must be taken approximately two (2) hours before travelling. Then, one (1) tablet every eight (8) hours while on the journey. On the other hand, children between five (5) to 12 years old must take one (1) tablet two (2) hours before travelling, and ½ a tablet every eight (8) hours during the trip.

If you are using this medication to treat balance-related problems like Ménière’s disease, adults and children aged 12 and above can take two (2) tablets three (3) times a day. Meanwhile, children aged 5-12 years old can take one (1) tablet three (3) times per day.

If you miss taking your tablet as per your schedule, make sure eight (8) hours has already elapsed before you take the missed dose.
