What is Uniroid HC Ointment?

Uniroid HC Ointment is a treatment used to alleviate symptoms of haemorrhoids (piles) and other anal discomforts like tears and fissures. It contains hydrocortisone and cinchocaine that relieve the irritation and numb the pain and itchiness.

Haemorrhoids or piles are swollen or enlarged blood vessels that can cause discomfort, itching, and irritation in or around the anal region after a bowel movement. They may be either internal (inside the anus) or external (outside the anus). Haemorrhoids, although generally not harmful, can cause pain and discomfort to the sufferer.

Those who are over the age of 45, spend a lot of time sitting, pregnant, or with a family history of haemorrhoids are more at risk of having haemorrhoids.

How does Uniroid HC Ointment work?

Uniroid HC Ointment contains two active ingredients hydrocortisone and cinchocaine hydrochloride that work together to alleviate the symptoms of haemorrhoids or piles. The hydrocortisone ingredient helps relieve the irritation and inflammation in the skin, while the cinchocaine hydrochloride ingredient is a local anaesthetic that numbs the affected area to provide relief from pain.

What are the benefits of using Uniroid HC Ointment?

Having haemorrhoids can cause a lot of pain and discomfort, which sometimes can disrupt normal daily activities. Treating it with Uniroid HC Ointment can help alleviate the symptoms associated with haemorrhoids. It quickly provides relief to the sufferer, allowing him or her to live life back to normal.

Who should not use Uniroid HC Ointment?

Those with tuberculosis and any kind of skin infection (e.g. thrush of the back passage, viruses affecting the skin) are not recommended to use Uniroid HC Ointment.

Children under 12 years old are not allowed to use Uniroid HC Ointment unless prescribed by the doctor.

Do not put any dressing, bandage, or plaster to the area when applied as it may cause an allergic reaction. It can be covered though with your clothing after application.

If you are taking, have recently taken, or planning to take any other medications, inform your doctor before using Uniroid HC Ointment. Certain medicines may cause a reaction when used with Uniroid HC Ointment.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women are not suitable to use this medication.

Uniroid HC Ointment contains cetostearyl alcohol that may cause local skin reactions like contact dermatitis.

The Uniroid HC comes in two variants: Uniroid HC Ointment and Uniroid HC Suppositories. The Uniroid HC Suppositories, inserted in the rectum, are used for the treatment of internal haemorrhoids.

To apply the ointment, apply a thin amount to the affected area in the anus. For internal haemorrhoids, use the nozzle applicator that comes with the package. More instructions on how to use the nozzle are available in the medicine leaflet.

Steps on how to apply Uniroid HC Ointment:

  • Wash the area gently with water. Pat dry using cotton wool.
  • Keep your hands clean before applying.
  • Squeeze a small amount of ointment to your finger and then spread to the infected area. Do not rub and do not use a tissue to apply.
  • Wash your hands after.

To use internally, put on the nozzle applicator to the tip and then insert into the back passage as far as possible. Squeeze the tube gently from the lower end while you pull it out. Make sure to clean the applicatorā€™s nozzle before and after use.

If too much ointment was applied, wipe off the excess with cotton wool. If accidentally swallowed or inserted excessively, contact your doctor right away or go to the nearest Emergency Department.

If you happen to miss one application, apply it as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if the next dose is almost due and continue with the next. Do not take a double dose for the missed dose.

Adults, elderly, and children over 12 years old can apply Uniroid HC Ointment two times a day: one in the morning and one in the evening, after a bowel movement unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Do not apply for more than 7 days.

If symptoms do not improve in 7 days or if they get worse, contact your doctor.
