What is Canesten Thrush Combi?
Canesten Thrush Combi Pessary & External Cream is a complete treatment for vaginal thrush. It is a pack that contains a traditional pessary and a double-strength thrush cream. The combi pack treats both the internal cause and external causes of infection, alleviating the irritating symptoms.
What Is Canesten Thrush Combi Pessary And External Cream Used For?
The Canesten thrush combi is used as a treatment for vaginal thrush or also known as Candidal vaginitis.
This single-dose pessary in the pack effectively treats the thrush infection inside the vagina, while a tube of Canesten thrush external 2% cream applied to the vulva and labia relieves the itching. The external cream can also be utilised on your partner’s genitals if he got the thrush as well.
This medicine is recommended to treat thrush in adults between 16 to 60 years old.
How Does Canesten Thrush Combi Work?
The pessary and external cream both have the same active ingredient clotrimazole, an antifungal medicine used to treat infections caused by fungi and yeasts.
Clotrimazole eradicates the Candida fungi that are causing the thrush infection by destroying their cell membranes. These cell membranes of the fungi are essential for their survival. The fungi keep unwanted substances from entering the cells and blocks the contents of the cells from leaking out. Clotrimazole creates holes in these membranes, which kills the fungi thus, clearing up the infection.
How Do I Use Canesten Thrush Combi Pessary And External Cream?
The Canesten 500mg single dose pessary should be inserted high into the vagina before bedtime. Use the applicator provided in the pack and follow the directions given. If you have your period you should wait until it is finished before using the pessary.
The Canesten thrush external cream should be applied thinly to the vulva and labia to aid in providing immediate comfort from the external symptoms of the infection, such as soreness and itching. Rub it gently into the affected area and wash your hands after. You can use this cream 2-3 times daily until the symptoms of the infection have cleared up.
You should consult your doctor if your symptoms persist after a week of using the internal cream.
